Bleach and starting a wash load in my LG-made Kenmore FL: is my drain pump sucking it away?

I've noticed that immediately after starting my washer, it initiates the drain pump for a few seconds before drawing water on the wash fill (and drawing water into the detergent dispenser drawer). Obviously, there's a reason for that because I can hear a bit of water being pumped away.

My concern is that my liquid bleach, which gradually drains out of its dispenser within seconds, is sucked away by the pump (which, I'm guessing is draining the excess water in the sump area at the bottom of the outer drum) before it even has a chance to mix into the wash water. This is particularly a concern for delay washes.

I guess I could add bleach immediately after the drain pump stops, but I can't do that with delay washes when I am sound asleep and the washer starts at 2 am. I'm afraid that most of my bleach will be drained away long before the water starts filling.

Anyone else encounter this problem/phenomenon?

Bleach (and softener) should not dispense immediately.  Both should be held in the respective dispenser compartments until incoming water flows through to flush the contents.  Bleach typically dispenses during the last few mins of the wash period, or into the first rinse.  Premature dispensing can be caused by 1) overfilling (frontloader bleach dispensers typically hold only 1/3 to 1/2 cup of liquid), 2) jostling the dispenser drawer when closing it (which triggers siphoning), 3) residual water in the compartment (dump it out before pouring in the bleach).

As mentioned above....I think you might be overfilling your bleach dispenser causing it to siphon out as soon as you close it.

How much bleach are you pouring into your dispenser?

My 98 Elux FL will siphon the compartment if overfilled.

 

Not familiar with that model but it should have a 'full' line in the compartment.  Do not exceed.  See what happens then.

Mine will empty immediately if I push the drawer closed to quickly. Close it slowly and smoothy, as Dadoes mentioned.

Are you seeing any bleach-induced fading or holes in clothing?

Ditto, my Asko's softener cup will empty if drawer is pushed in too fast.
