A co-worker is thinking of purchasing a Blomberg washer and dryer to replace her Kenmore stack unit which has developed problems. I tried to repair the washer for her, but it would involve replacing the motor, which may or may not fix the problem.

Has anyone had any experience with Blomberg Appliances? My limited research shows they are from Germany and are available here in the U.S.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey, John!

Great to hear from you. This is the unit that, several years ago, I asked your opinion on what to get to replace her stack front load machines. It is a Kenmore top load machine with attached dryer on top.

She decided to wash bed pillows in it. Now is goes off balance right away when it starts to spin. My diagnosis was that she put such a strain on the motor that she damaged it and now it can't ramp up fast enough and therefore the load remains unbalanced. Her husband asked about replacing the motor. I told him that this is not a definitive diagnosis about the motor, but he could try it. In the meantime, they bought a new stack set. When the appliance store got there, they decided that it was too tight a space to try to get the old one out and get the new one in. So they left, with the new machine.

She's now looking into a stack set by Bosch. I think it's going to have to be two separate units and then assembled in the laundry room because of the tight fit getting the machines in.

Life is okay here in Rhode Island. Come on down sometime when you have time and we can rebuild a washer or two. Hope all is good with you.

John,

I did remove the front panel. My first thought was one of the suspension springs. But that looks fine to me. Is my theory about damaging the motor and thus causing it not to be able to ramp up enough to balance the load legitimate? I'm not the expert. You are.
