Hi guys,

This is my first post so I've no idea what I'm doing!

I have recently inherited a Bosch VT596 washer/dryer. It looks in good shape but the inner glass door is jammed closed. Pushing the "window" button does nothing. I have no idea whether this machine works as its history is unknown.

Anyone have any ideas? Any tips regarding this fab retro machine would be much appreciated. Alternatively if anyone is interested in it, please let me know.

electric latch .... is it plugged ?

otherwise it won't open (just like Mieles)

Mieles have a safety mechanical latch release behind the cointrap lid, guess also BSH machines do a somewhat similar thing

Robert Bosch

Welcome to the club, Very much a classic washer dryer, solid and well made, try pushing the door fully shut, it could be half engaged against a sturdy rubber seal, check the fuse and if the power is working to the machine, also turn the programmer to the OFF position sometimes they wont open until the programmer is at the right setting etc..also remove the bottom panel, near where the pump filter is I`m sure there is a cord / lever to open the door in case of emergency..

Is this your machine??

Here it is, in all its glory!

Thanks so much for your help. Will check the fuse and if there's still no joy I will take the panel off.

Really hope we can breathe life into this machine, I would like to use it but my husband is starting to mutter about going to Comet to buy a modern one instead!

In the meantime, here's a picture of it.

Chris ! Listen to Henna, please !

Henna,
your mid eighties Bosch is built like a tank, it is comparable to a Miele. Current Bosch washers with their plenty of plastics can only dream about that stainless steel doorframe. It is rated 6 Kg washing / 3 Kg drying, despite it has a 65 litre drum as current 8 Kg Logixx 8 Bosch. This means better washing results and less wrinkles.

If hubby is still hard to convince, show him this shot with some 10 y.o Bosch machines :

Hi
Yes definatley a release emergency release cable on this machine.
Remove the base plinth and on the left hand side you will see a red cable, pull it and the door will open. Its the emergency door release.
good luck
