both of the hotpoints.. are still playing up!!

hi, the 9534 has now had a new motor, a new timer and a new module and its STILL broken. im getting to the end of my tether with it and feel like just scrapping it now!
does anybody have any suggestions as to why its STILL just going straight up into spin with no distribution, and not tumbling at all in wash?
And when i was already annoyed about that, i then went and snapped the carbon brush holders in the 95490!
does anyone know if tapping the underside of the 95490 timer and using wd40 on it will enable it to go both ways? it has been suggested.

I would not put any more money into the 9534 but keep it as an ornament until another similar machine turns up, such as an early WM series. I never collected machines as such but I did sell reconditioned ones and that was my approach. These Hotpoints are probably the most common old washing machines in UK so there will be others available. I remember once cruising round the streets looking for one outside someones house when I needed a spare tub. I didn't have to drive too far before I spotted one someone had left for the Council scrap collection.
I would not use WD40 on a timer but you could try Servisol switch cleaner. The tapping is worth a try if the contacts are sticky but not welded solid. I have sometimes repaired timers but they are fiddly things. It is possible to detach the rotating drum section from the block of switches and thus get access to the switch contacts.

hi yeah the parts were donated to me by various members of the forum, so i am still prepared to spend a little bit of cash. thanks for the advice though
ive been told the 9534 could have a troublesome wire?

ah i have now discovered that the cottons fast spin on the hotpoint 95490 is ok, the other fast spin not as good and the delicates spin doesnt even spin.
that doesnt sound like the timer to me, and i know its not the motor as its brand new reconditioned with new brushes. perhaps it could be the module in fact?

I think the module on those only controls spin speed, so if the motor turns at different speeds it is probably OK. Usually if they do go wrong the triac develops a short circuit and the motor spins at full speed all the time. The triac is the large transistor looking device clipped onto the aluminium heat sink. Perhaps the delicates spin is in the opposite direction which is not working?

WD40

Some of the older timers in Hot points use nylon parts inside and nylon and WD40 hate each other and could render the timer useless. I use silicone lubricant which is a lot safer.
