I like the Gulf sign. Dad with a partner owned/operated a very successful Gulf from 1958 to 1983. The area Gulf distributor had built the facility, was looking for someone to run it. Dad suggested to a friend that they go for it. The local bank refused to loan them start-up capital so dad borrowed from his dad, the partner from his FIL. He often laughed at the bank's refusal regards to the ongoing success. Dad was a few months short of 18yo at the time of opening, couldn't sign the franchise contract so his dad did. They got a Farm Bureau Safemark tires/batteries dealership and added a large tire warehouse, once won an award for best dealership in the state. The fellow who later bought the original partner's half and then bought-out dad eventually bankrupted it and the bank lost $40K to him, which also provided dad with some mirth, LOL.
