Boy can Identify vacuums by their sound.

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hmm, why don't you ask Kyle himself? He's a regular over on the classic vac website.

But I'm not surprised, anyway. sounds have a lot of "data" in them. For a time I could identify various orchestras in recordings on the radio, by the way the music was played. I can still spot Ormandy/Philadelphia by the sloppy strings. LOL.

The Sounds of Washers

I have been around several older and newer washers long enough in my lifetime to guess pretty well *by sound* what these machines might be. Older Speed Queens are so entertaining, along with earlier TL Frigidaires. Before a former roommate got married, I shared a place with him. He recently purchased one of those F&P washers. Now those are most fascinating to listen to. WP/KM washers have a particular sound. Maytags have another kind of a noise. Old Amanas are the most depressing to listen to. GE/Hotpoint TL's have a distinctive audio trail. Even heard the sound of a late seventies/early eighties Monkey Wards Signature washer. The Bendix FL's have a particularly interesting high pitched squeal, especially when they are at a top speed spin. Many of the newer FL's that I have seen in the laundromat, along with some demos viewed here, have the sound of a jet engine when revving up to their highest spins. Example, (and I forget who shared this), a Hotpoint Powerjet front loader with that 1600 RPM spin.--Laundry Shark

I can tell alot of brands of car by there exhaust sound. Also can tell alot of washers apart like laundry shark, esp. a Kenmore?Whirlpool...

Newer Washers? Hard Telling

New Kenmores are harder to distinguish for specific sounds, as they might have been made by Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, etc. Different motors and designs (along with how they operate) also have a more confusing effect. Ever heard of this off brand called a Galaxy? Saw one at Sears on occasion. By the way, the correct washer demo *in my last post* was a European Hoover Vision Powerjet front loader, not a European Hotpoint front loader, as I had erroneously supposed.--Laundry Shark
