BRAND NEW DUOMATIC DOOR BOOT FAILURE!!!!!!!

A little over a year ago I put one of those new fangeled door boots on my 57 gas duomatic.That machine is used 1/4 as much as the others.To my horror I happened to notice there was a small tear in it,and many more to come.I thought these boots were supposed to be so good.There not.Whoever has these new boots keep a check on them.It's all good I will put the old one back on it will last a long long time.

Wow John, sorry to hear that!   

 

The NOS door boot installed on my little Westinghouse Spacemate washer just before the big wash-in a year ago, unfortunately failed after just 4 months!   I think is was more of a "time" issue rather than a "usage" issue for this one.   I do have another NOS boot in the box, but I'm afraid to install it thinking it will only last a few months too.

Sorry i could not downsize the picture.  When Travis originally posted this thread I wondered does it make a difference if the "seam" is up or down as pictured.  I wondered if the "seam" should be up.  My Mom used to slide a cookie sheet under her laundromat to get a little more use before she called for service. I do know it was risky business first a pinhole then a flood. She usually got away with it for a couple of months. alr2903

Kevin New door boot

Kevin,This is one of the new boots that was just made.It was produced only a few years ago.This was not a boot that sat in storage for 40 years or so.That is why I was so surprised that it failed.It was new material that was supposed to last longer than the original boots.NOT SO!Thank god I have many originals on hand.I wonder if being in a gas Duomatic had anything to do with it?

is that the boot I sent you?  I am surprised, I have had one installed in my electric Duo for more than three years and she is a daily driver, no sign of any wear at all. I wonder if it is the gas Duo reacting with the rubber.
