Think they knew they had a collectible and priced it accordion (sic). It's our fault. If I had L400 to toss about and lived within lorry distance I would have bought it. Hard to find even scrapper twintubs on US ebay.

NIB - but quite right, not worth that!! Great washers though, SpiraClean washaction, 3kw boiler, 3,100rpm fastest on the market -and clutch control as well...

£400 is not what I would pay. Ok, it is a new machine but @ £400 is not a price. A real numpty who price it that high and who brought it may be looking for some cash soon....

I'm certain that by the time the last of the Supermatics (model 9404) were sold in the late 1990s, the price had indeed risen to £400 - certainly in the home shopping catalogues anyway!
One could argue that £400 is a fair price for a machine that would more than likely be pretty reliable and robust in comparison to some of today's output! And I'm sure the spin must be A rated...if not the wash performance...and you'd need to do an awful lot of loads in one tub of wash water to get an A rating for energy. Mind you, having it as one's workhorse might just be considered sacrilege.
When having a peek at the listing it popped up with "you might also be interested in..." showing reconditioned Supermatics for the princely sum of £395.
That's the trouble with niche markets: it's far easier to charge a premium.
I'm sure whoever stumped up the cash is more than pleased with their purchase - good luck to 'em!

Digressing slightly - Yayyyyyyyyyy, I am signed in!!!!!!! Using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
Back to subject matter - Yep, you are absolutely correct about the £400 figure.
Have just gone and found the Supermatic 9404 from the 1998 into 1999 KAYS catalogue and it is retailing there for a whopping £449.99!
So maybe £400 is worth it, though I would never have plugged the machine in - would definitely have wanted to keep it as per it rolled off the production line circa 1977.
An amazing machine and it just shows what has been hidden away over the years. Didi a search last week fro Creda Dryers and there was an unused Rumbelows exclusive Compact 300RS drop down door jobby. Wonder what else is hidden under peoples stairs!

Nice shot there of the Servis 1101 twin tub, I remember having a pamphlet / mini catalogue from Grattan in about 95' and it showed that retro twin tub, and was desperate to order one, albeit only being 19 at the time..but when i inquired about ordering one, they said they were waiting another delivery which never came.
Regarding the Supermatic, i was tempted, but @ £400 quid, decided against it, with that Liberator range I wonder if the filter clean tray was ever changed to purple to match the other fitments..?

It was from that very catalogue that I bought my first brand new washer, you can see a little bit of it in the picture - it was the Servis H-axis top loader and I seem to remember it was cheaper than the Supermatic. I had placed an order through another catalogue for the Hotpoint top loader, with agi but had a call from them to say that they were out of stock and as they had stopped production, I was not able to have one. I was gutted!!!

Can't find in Ontario, CANADA. I had one (1971 to 1980) that was a branded by "KENMORE" which was a SEARs line, which no longer exists; and "McClary", that was taken over as a subsidiary of "General Electric", also no longer carries them
Every time I search for one, I only get sites from UK. Can anyone find out from their UK suppliers IF they still ship to CANADA / where to ... I'd love to have one, now that I'm single again ... MINE was in the original "Avocado Green" colour – Thanks
