Braun shavers.. the BEST

I just returned a TOL Remington rotary shaver (with washer) because the beard trimmer sux, the rotary blades put an awful hurt on my face, and the washer/base is LOUD when it runs. After returning I went back to a new TOL Braun shaver. Now that is one sweet system. The head is a honeycomb shape which enables it to shave hair coming in any direction. It gives a very close shave (and Helen can verify that after this weekend hehe), and the beard trimmer can tackle anything.

The washer unit is neat, too. It automatically charges the razor and has a sensing mechanism to tell if the razor is clean or dirty. In fact, it has 5 "cycles" depending on how much it needs to clean. The first cycle is "eco", that's like everyday. And it goes on up to "intense" which I guess if you don't clean your razor it will pick that one.

Paid $152 at Walmart for it.

You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest shaver in the world... BRAUN!

Braun is a good brand overall. But the coffeemaker I have, recently got replaced with a Sunbeam Perculator.

Electric razors are ok IF

Your beard is lighter. I'm blessed(cursed) with a heavy beard that grows fast, and nothing lasts too long for me. I had a pivoting head Braun that I would get maybe 2 months worth of shaves out of it before it would rip hairs out of my face.
I gave up on electric razors.
For some time now I have been using the Gilette mach III, which tackles my beard very well. Compliment thah with a shaving cream heater, and I get a really good shave!

When I was younger I used a Philishave (Norelco) shaver. I changed to wet shaving many years ago. I will never go back to an electric shaver. I am using the Mach III Turbo. My shaving cream is the shave cream from the body shop. I prefer that over the Gillette stuff.

I have the older version of that razor, called the "Syncro". It has been the best I have ever used.

I've used Philishaves (Norelcos) all my life. I just bought a new one about a week ago at the drug store on sale.. A Philips Speed XL, the new one with the 3 sets of cutting rings in each of the 3 rotary heads. I'm happy with it although it certainly doesn't have that heavy duty feel like the old ones. In fact for all the money they charge for them nowadays you don't even get a nice case to put it in, just a flimsy little travel pouch. I doubt too that it will last the 20+ years I got from my other main one.

Jason, enjoy the Braun. I've played with a few and I think they're the last well-made razors out there today. Does yours have the silver "shell" on it?

In the short time I've been shaving, all I've used are vintage Norelcos, starting with a 1990's Speedrazor dual-head which I eventually gave away. Currently I have a 1981 Tripleheader and a 1980 Norelco Rotatract, complete with case. That one is my favorite (and the one I use the most). I bought it on eBay used and rebuilt it with parts from a "donor" rechargeable razor that had died. They give a nice, close shave, and I don't have any pulling problems either.

As far as I'm concerned, electric shavers are the only way to go.

Vintage is the way to go

I have a mid-'70s Schick shaver that I got as NOS. Sucker not only gives a smooth shave, it's solid as a rock. You could drive a truck over the case and it'd be in one piece.

Of course, I have a light beard, so YMMV.

My first month of undergrad school, I learned that I could shave, or I could sleep 15 more minutes.

I haven't shaved since September 12, 1978.
My nieces have never seen me without face fur.

Been thinking about a beard trimmer for my forthcoming birthday. There's a Panasonic I like, and a Norelco that also is a possibility.

Austins roto tract is the same one I have when I got it as a gift new. When the batteries die out check with Radio Shack, they had a place to send things you could get batteries although I used to take mine every few years to a Philips service center but that's gone now.

I have heard that rotary shavers will tear your face up if you are used to the foil type.
