Brew Express vs, Keurig

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Have you thought of maybe looking at the Miele built in coffee machines? Those are nice but pricey. We have a Keurig and it replaced a Tassimo that I did like but with Tassimo one would get used to an item from them then they would discontinue it. Maddening to say the least plus there wasnt much to choose from either.
The Keurig has turned out to be better than the Tassimo and they have alot to choose from.

Disappearing coffee pods

Exactly why I'm not too keen on buy one of these Keurigs or Tassimos because a year or two down the road you won't be able to find the pods or K-cups anywhere. Just like what happened with the Melitta and Senseo pod machines.. Already I look around the supermarkets etc and see few if any K-cups or Tassimo selections. Don't see them in Walmart type stores either or very limited selection. Nothing like they advertise.

My sister just got a Keurig (the smaller one)and likes it. She said the first cup of coffee was not very hot though. After that it has been fine. Go to Bestbuy.com and read the reviews on it. Some people complain about the coffee not being hot enough. Others have no problems. The small version only makes a standard cup of coffee. The larger version you can select a larger cup.

Re-usable K-cup

Most models come with a re-usabe K-cup that you can load your own coffee into. So, no fear that the pods will disappear.

If your model doesn't include one, just buy one...

There is a place in Merrimac Mass called Kenoza that sells Keurig and every single coffee and tea flavor one can imagine. They also have an online service where one can order. I love the place since they let you try before you buy. I will have to say that with Keurig they dont kill a flavor or product line like Tassimo.

Miele and Brew Express

I had one of the Miele coffee systems, I think it was a CVA600. It was a 220volt model. I had it built in to my studio city home during a remodel in 2002. By the time I sold the house, it had made over 7,000 cups of coffee!!!

It did require some maintenance, but made pretty good coffee. I do not have the system or room for one in my new house in Northridge. I realy do miss it and plan to incoroporate one whenever I remodel. The new systens are more sophisticated and require less maintenance.

My parents put a brew express in their house in 2007. They really love it, but it has been problematic. Several service calls for replacement parts, which my dad has always been able to install and repair. Good customer service thus far.

I got the Keurig for Christmas this year and it does make great coffee but I have to agree that it sure could be hotter. Mine has an adjustable temp control with 191 degrees being the highest setting which is where I have it set at.

I too have had a Keurig for about 1 1/2 years. It is more expensive per cup, but the variety is great. The Stop & Shop and Targets have increased their selections and run specials and issue in-store coupons.

Nmassman44,
I didn't know about that shop in Merrimac. I'll have to check it out.
I have been using coffee4less.com They have great specials and free shipping on orders over a certain $ amount. Other places do the same.

My favorite K-cups are by Timothy's. Donut shop blend...mmmmm

Nespresso

I have the Nespresso. Nestle and Nescafe being the world's largest producer of coffee offer 36 flavor profiles but one must purchase them exclusively from Nestle and exclusively mail order. I liked it when I got it and this year loaned it to a friend's daughter to use in her dorm room at college. I taught a cooking class yesterday and they have a built in Miele which make great coffee. There are several large hoppers to prefill with fresh coffee and empty the pucks but water is plumbed. They have had one repair in 5 years and Albert Lee, a local appliance dealers offers excellent customer service.
The Nespresso is shoved back by the muffin tins while we make fondant to decorate a neighbor's 2 grade birthday cake.

thanks for the replies, as much as I really really wan't the built in, I had heard it was problematic (probably because you can't run vinager thru it?
We have the regular Keurig for the house in CT but just remodeled our cottage in FL and will get the Breville SS model I think. I did email lance larken about the idea they might license from Keurig to build a built in model. Keurig already makes a countertop plumbed in model, it would be a matter of simply taking the guts from that and designing a built in enclosure.
One last think, at first the coffee in the keurig was way too weak for me. Then I found Jet Fuel, by coffee people at Amazon. Perfect REAL strong cup. 50k kups for 21bucks I think.
