GE Toaster Oven
Have the same unit which was also MIB when nabbed from eBay, and LOVE to death. Only problem is even on "dark" sometimes toast must be done twice to reach the correct level desired.
Unlike today's toasters, this unit does not send toast popping up when ready, but rather it coasts up slowly. If the bread is too thick or gets stuck neither side will rise and the heat will stay on. This can not only lead to burnt toast or whatever one was making, but a potential fire as well. This is because the heating element does not go off until the toast rises above a certian level. When the unit is switched to "bake" and one is using the oven, this is not a problem.
These units are built for the duration! Heavy and solid, just the thing Mrs. June Cleaver would have had on her breakfast table.
Fels Flakes,
IIRC Fels flakes started production around the 1940's or 1950's, with "Instant" Fels coming later towards the 1960's. Fels flakes basically were Fels Naptha soap already in flake form, to save housewives the bother of grating up soap on laundry/cleaning day.
