Broken Hotpoint sob sob

so many real hotpoints seem to be breaking lately another members top loader now mine. the classic hotpoint WM12 I have seems to be broken. After washing a very light cat blanket made of acrylic when i emptied the machine i noticed the drum sitting somewhat diagonally. Is this a case of buggered suspension? It does squeak on reverse tumble for the 1st 3 seconds but quitens after. I would hate for my house mate to have to scrap it and if its going to cost much to repair that would be the case. Can somebody help me save a classic piece of true hotpoint history? Thanks Nick.

I REALLY DO NEED HELP GUYS. If its replaced it will be with a cheap indesit or servis. Money is tight for both of us at the min and the miele i wanted went out the window when i spent a fortune on a camera i cant work out to use. I only hope i can sort it out in time! Waits eagerly . . . . . . . . .N

Hmm

Am no expert but sounds like either the suspesion or the bearing. Or perhaps it's always been like it and you never noticed? A pic would help if you could manage it. I would be tempted to have the top off, check the two suspension mounts and that they are still connected to the drum, see that the concrete weight hasn't worked loose etc. If one of the suspension things has gone you can buy them cheap from ebay - about £20? Keep us informed Nick

PS One more thing there is sometimes a spacer as part of the `bearing' system I believe (I have the service manual for the 18 and 95 machines) and that may have jumped off or slipped or whatever. Calling Chestermike.......

Nick its only been since the last wash was put on. Did a maintenance wash 3 days ago and wiped door seal to remove i gunk wasnt like it then. Its drum is quite prominantly diagonal. Maybe its time to confess to house mate just to have the lid off. I cant help but think i may of disturbed something with a few "lets fill it up on super rinse and set the dial to the part where it goes hell for leather straight up to 800rpm full of water" sessions. GRR AT MYSELF. lol Nick

on the bearing theory after thoughts

is it my imagination or real that when you turn a classic hotpoint drum with no bearing problems you get like a growling noise and a slight resistance. Every hotpoint iv done this to it does that. I know when the bearing go on any machine you get the growl and drum movement backwards and forwards etc anyway. Am i making sense? Tried to move the inner drum for movement and no abnormalility there.

Nick sorry to hear you are having problems. Don't be too hard on yourself, I did something similar to my mums old Hotpoint. When she was out at the shops I used to play with it and one day I overloaded it to see what would happen. I stuffed one of her coats in it. Unfortunately when it span the fricton against the door seal discoloured it and the coat tore.

I hid the coat at the back of the cupboard and felt terrible. Luckily apart from the discolouration of the door seal the machine was OK. What I needed was a bloody good smack LOL!

I hope you can fix it. If you can't have a look on Ebay you might get yourself a real bargin or indeed something more vintage. I got my Hotpoint WD640 brand new for £180 on Ebay. The reason it was sold was because their mother in law had bought them a machine at the same time as a present. It was brand new and smelt like it too.

had the lid off . . .

my housemate now know about my fixation. Told her and shes fine about it. Each to their own lol. So took a look at it. Nothing inside seems amiss but there is a white chalky residue on the spider. Cant see far down the back of drum much without un plumbing it. Wondering if the bearings are failing. Suspension i cant see without tipping machine on side for viewing underneath i guess? How do i check it? Outer drum is in right place and not sunk so maybe suspensions ok? There is a date stamp on the lid though which was good. June 1994 so its 12 years old lol. Brushes will need changing soon getting short now and nothings ever gone wrong with it yet so its a good one. Wish i could be more specific but until camera set up on pc cant give you photos Nick.

ITS ALMOST DEAD I THINK

The suspension definitely has gone and i was waiting to find out more before i took it to pieces to attempt to fix it and while its been washing well im not complaining yet.

But now worse things are happening.

In the final spin when it jacks up to 800rpm it holds it for all of 20 seconds and then slows down a little for 10 seconds then back up to 800, constantly doing this through the spin. i turned it off quickly incase leaving it would do more damage.
im guessing i need new brushes, can somebody clarify this for me please?

Just when i had my last load to go in too. the machines been hammered over the past couple of days between us, loads more than its used to so maybe this has also contributed or done something.
