As I was leaving for lunch today my eye caught an estate sale sign so you know where I had lunch!  Anyway, while there I found something I have been wanting for years - a brownwear bean pot.  It was in perfect condition but unfortunately said pot was missing it's lid.  It was not a McCoy pot but did have USA stamped on the bottom.  The former owner's neice (about 60 or so) was handling the sale and I asked her about the pot.  She said it was probably made by Hull(?) and she remembered her aunt making baked beans in said pot since she was a little girl. The price of the beanpot was $3.50 but she told me if I wanted it I could have it for $3.00.  My question, actually questions, are:

a)  should this still be a safe pot which I can bake beans in?

b)  I know I shouldn't ask, but would it be okay to put this pot in the dishwasher?  I'm not planning to but I would like to sterilize it before I use it.

Thank you for your help.  The pic below looks like the one I bought.

Bean Pot

If it has a glaze on it, no problem in the dishwasher. If you are going to use it for baked beans, you will need to find a lid. It will work fine in the oven.
