Borat; gone bad (gone worse).

I confess.I expected it to be so bad that I HAD to go see it.

IMHO it WAS bad. Not much merit to this film from my point of view.

It was so over-the-top ridiculous and stereotypical I could not help but laugh.

Even the full-sized close-up of male organ was uncalled-for.

Thoughts?

Steve, I had the same feelings about seeing the film. It certainly met my expectations. Just another flick to prove that homosexuality is to be "laughed at, feared, or pitied"<The Celluloid Closet>. It was not easy for me to sit through the movie and albeit there were some funny moments, they were uncomfortable laughs at best. I had a friend mention to me that since Cohen was not a gay man that it made it offensive to her? I wonder?

Uh, that was not my experience of it at all...........

I am sincerely sorry if anyone here went to it on my suggestion and hated it. Sincerely.

The audience I saw it with was very respectful, and laughed a lot, as did I, as did Linn.

I thought it was wonderful satire, and very, very funny.

However, I loved "Borat," too.

LOL

I saw it wth a total of 9 peopele in the audience, in the middle of Connecticut.

If I had seen this at midnight in Manhattan with a gaggle full of fruity "sailors" I'm sure I would have had a totally different view of it!

Anymore, many producers' idea of comedy is having someone throwing a plug of sh*t on the wall and laughing hysterically at it.

I saw it with about 10 people in the audience and they too were respectful. I am not sure how they could have been anything other than respectful. There was no yelling or screaming from the audience. I also admitted that there were funny scenes. At the risk of sounding like a prude, I just can think of other words beside satire to discribe the movie. Was not all bad but I have seen movies that were much more fun. Agreed on Borat, I laughed throughout the movie. Bottom line you had a straight man portraying a straight man.

I laughed out loud at plenty in this film. But my concern lies with the audience in my particular situation. We went to see it at the drive-in. There were maybe 20 cars in the lot at best. One in particular stuck out. There were kids in it. Like under 10 years old. My partner and I were wondering what the adults who brought them to this film were thinking. Well, they weren't.

I'd say that about 20 minutes into it, a few cars drove out. But not the one with the kids.

Bottom line for me is that even as a gay man, an effeminate male such as Bruno would have me running away fast, and I feel it's a mockery of gay people everywhere. I realize Cohen was trying to make a point with this film but at the same time he was perpetuating a stereotype held by ignorant heterosexuals that all of us mainstream gay men wish our community/subculture could shake once and for all.

I think Bruno the porn man has a profile on BMB. I don't know what name he uses, but I've seen him there. He makes no mention of his former career. He of course looks older and he's not as pumped, but he's still a hottie.

I saw it this last weekend

About half of the 25 people got up and left, I felt that it portrayed us in a VERY bad light. And gave others more ammo to shoot at us. The nudity should have it rated xxx for xtra stupid , xtra offinsive & xtra stereotyped. Many made loud vulgar comments about us. Several screamed "damn queers" "faggots" ect.. Was not a enjoyable movie. Very up setting for my brother and a couple of co workers. Did not really want to see it but was told it was funny.. maybe just a little..
Now Borat was not bad, this is.. In one theater in Dallas 2 guys were comming out of the movie and were pushed to the ground and called F**n Faggots by 3 others, It is movies like this that cause us so much trouble and hate on us.

I never saw the movie, but saw bits on TV, and I'm thinking, I refuse to go see this movie.

I have a feeling this is going to back fire on us, of who we are, and I'm upset about it. We don't need this if we are trying to get gay marriage. I am sure in some people eyes, they are going to see us running around like this if we get the gay marriage.

2 guys were comming out of the movie and were pushed to the

I guess it's no surprize, then, that both TX senators voted "no" on the matthew Shepard Act?

"Only two things come from Austin... steers and queers. I don't see no horns on you, boy!"

Sounds like the movie is as bad as media coverage of Pride parades. They always seem to zero in on the most outrageous and/or stereotypical in the bunch when they edit the filming.

Meanwhile, on BBC America I can watch John Barrowman, an openly gay actor, acting normally and being treated normally whether in Torchwood or his documentary looking for a gay gene. And, on Any Dream Will Do or How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, he looks positively "Clint Eastwood Straight" against Graham Norton.

Graham, a very funny man himself, is also openly gay (DUH- he opens his mouth and a purse falls out!), though there never seems to be any uncomfortablity from any of his guests. Even when Zac Efron was on!

Now I see in TV Guide that several soaps have jumped on the band wagon re: having gay characters. I guess it's progress, but I'm sure right now it's just for ratings.

There was one shot in a Waco theater

Was told he was too "BRUNO" to live in Waco and was shot in the side. Shooter was a student at Baylor. Told the Police the guy was trying to "make him".. The police DID NOTHING!
The man shot is going to be ok..
