Maybe it's the chlorine smell?

There's no chlorine bleach in Bubble Bandit as it would kill the enzymes in it.

Maybe it's the STPP you smell ;>)

This product is amazing. I ordered it through Amazon and have used is twice. I will never use Cascade or Finish again now that I can get Bubble Bandit. I only wish it came in a box with a pour spout instead of a bag with a zip lock top. Oh well, you can't have everything? LOL

Mine came earlier this week(went ahead and ordered 2 bags of it) and I tried it yesterday. One caveat, with me being busy because of the holidays recently I haven't done alot of cooking so I didn't have anything really baked on or filthy to wash. Just everyday dishes, bowls, and glasses. I did put a couple of wine glasses in for the wash as those seemed to be worst for showing spots when I used casade and Finish powder. They did better with the Finish gel packs, but still had some residue around the lip of the glass. Soooo well first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the smell. Reminded of what I used to remember powder DW detergents smelling like before they started adding lemon, citris, or whatever scent. Per the instructions, filled the main wash cup only and then started the cycle. About 12 min into the main wash, I opened the door to check for foaming(see thread in Deluxe forum for more on this) and the only thing I saw was mildly soapy water and some suds, no foam! Let her finsh and once again, during the dry cycle, the smell coming from the DW was like what I used to remember smelling. It's hard to describe, it's not a harsh smell like chlorine or a fruity scented smell, just a pleasant smell that tells me the dishes are clean. When all was said and done, the wine glasses looked perfect. Everything came out clean(again, wasn't that dirty going in this time) and I can't wait to try it with a really dirty load. But after using Bubble Bandit one time, I'm liking it.

Glad to hear you guys who just got it is liking it too!

I poured some (about a cup or so) into an air tight rubbermaid container, that way I don't have to worry about it caking up under the sink, adn rest of it is in the dry area in the laundry room.

Yeah, the smell is something and I enjoy it!

Can someone enlighten me

on this "old time smell"?

The reason I ask, is growing up in the 70s/80s, I remember all automatic dishwashing detergents smelling like chlorine. I don't remember any other smell. Didn't they all have chlorine back then? I don't think they had enzymes, or did they?

I am not sure? We didn't have one when I was growing up, just at friends house at time when I smelled it.

Bubble Bandit has Enzymes???

While I don't have a MSDS on hand, the bag only lists

Sodium Carbonate (Washing Soda) (Probably Filler )
Sodium TriPolyPhosphate (Water Softener & Cleaning Agent)
Sodium Metasilicate (Alkalinity Booster, Water Softener)
Sodium Polyacrylate (Water Absorbing Crystals (used in Swiffer Pads, and Diapers) ??? (What are these doing in here)
C6-10 alcohols ethoxylated propoxylated (disinfectant, possibly a spot remover?)

Unless I'm truly missing something, I really don't see Enzymes or Oxygen Bleach, or even Chlorine in there formulation.

This stuff looks very similar to something, Johnson Diversy makes for Glass Dishwashing...

Great stuff

I have been using Bubble Bandit for over 3 months now and love it. I have soft water so only need to use half of a scoop, which is small to begin with. If any of you have been toying with the idea to try some, by all means do, you will be thrilled with the results. Gary

Nice I was in search for some detergent for the Hobart WM-1 and I see a lot of good things about the bubble bandit.

I emailed the guy who makes it..

It's a chlorine based Dishwasher detergent. It doesn't contain Enzymes. Just, worth a note, if you're planning to wash silver or other delicate things that can't withstand chlorine in the dishwasher.

I have used it for a couple years now and love it. I used a free sample Finish Quantum tab yesterday and I didn't like it nearly as well as the Bubble Bandit. They have a customer for life... Or until the government shuts them down.

I just wished they had it in bigger bags.. I wont know how much dishwashing will be going on until I get the Hobart back in service. As of right now I have over 200 dishes (plates) that need to be washed.

I'm torn

Between this and Finish Powerball......I'm on my last box of Institutional Cascade......I hate the fact that this doesn't have enzymes......I'm wondering since this is chlorine based with phosphates, if it's going to end up being pretty much the same thing as the institutional cascade I've been using the past year or so....

Bubble Bandit

I had been using Bubble Bandit for several months and getting fairly good results. But I began to notice that coffee stains in the bottom of my white mugs were getting more pronounced. Looking at the "ingredient" list on the package, I realized there are no enzymes, no oxygen bleach and no chlorine bleach.

I saw an ad on TV for Oxiclean dishwasher detergent. They said that it had enzymes, oxygen based bleach and left no film or residue on dishes and glassware. Skeptical, I bought a trial size so if it didn't do the job I wouldn't be out too much cash. I could not believe the difference. After a couple of wash loads, the coffee stains disappeared and it leaves absolutely ZERO residue or film on dishes or on the inside of the tank.

I must say I have been very impressed.

Whilst I understand that Cascade Institutional no longer contains the Phosphates, does it still contain the Chlorine Bleach its "renowned" for?

Even if it is Phosphate free, I'd still be interested in trying something with real bleach inside, just to see what (if any) difference this would make to our colourful clear plastic glad ware items.

but, I remember another thread a while back talking about dishwasher detergents not having chlorine; that coffee stains, tomato stains, would somewhat remain on dishes......Someone ended up commenting that they put a little chlorine bleach in toward the end of the wash cycle I think (on occasion) and it cleaned this all away.....I can't remember specifics on how much they used or when exactly they put it in the wash cycle.......but you know it would take those stains away if you did it......

Does contain chlorine bleach, but, I do think it's a very limited amount. I've been told it's chlorine scent, is very weak at best, but, it does contain some degree of Chlorine. 

 

Cascade Professional (the new formula) doesn't contain any chlorine. It's an oxygen bleach & enzyme formula. It's also very weak.

Read the ingredient list. There is no mention of sodium hypochlorite. If it's in there, I believe it would have to say so on the label.

I have been using it and really like it. I alternate with Finish all in one Tabs since my horrible Electrolux dishwasher detergent cut gets stuck on the bottom rack when it is in the lowest position. Service is coming out tomorrow.

I did talk to rep from Bubble Bandit months ago and there is chlorine in it.

I beliwve they are also coming out with a rinse agent and laundry detergent soon.

Well......If Bubble Bandit is ANYTHING like institutional Cascade (with Chlorine), I'd take Finish Powerball over Institutional Cascade...The Ins Cascade is good, but there's just something missing that doesn't allow it to tackle certain things that the Finish Powerball can (and the Ins Cascade has phosphates.....You would think the Ins Cascade would be better because of that. But to me, it's not. Do they have samples of Bubble Bandit?

I've found it leaves a lot of food residue on things, if not pre-rinsed. The silverware & glasses were pretty damn shiny though

I just checked Bubble Bandits website, they also sell phosphate to use in laundry. I'm gonna compare the pricing to the bucket of stpp from the chem store.
