barely gets an oil change once a year, is always badly overl

Someone Please expalin this to me....
We have several Ford and Dodge vans also they are also badly abused. heavily overloaded are run hard. in one Ford and one Dodge the oil was only changed 1 a year, the others every 5ooo miles.. Both the vans that the oil was only changed still run like new after almost 100000miles the others that were taken care of need to be replaced.. and have untold problems with them. So Explain to me. why. These are all 2006 and 2008 models The 2006 models are the ones that have not had good care. and run the best 1 each Ford and Dodge for each year..

My Ford Explorer is a '95, and has 314,000 + miles on it. Not much rust for its age, and overall I have been very pleased with it. Did replace trans at about 220,000; otherwise just routine stuff. Bought it new and it's always gone back to Ford dealer for service except once. Ford trucks seem to hold up well, probably better than their cars. Have had GM products in the past, and they had more problems.

Not many Toyotas or other foreign brand cars in my immediate area, maybe 2 or 3 on the block; mostly GM, Ford or Chrysler products. I seem to see many more of them (Toyotas, Hondas, etc.) when I get in closer to the city. I've had friends with Hondas that just basically rusted into bits; still ran, but looked like crap. Think now though that most car makers have taken care of that problem. My next vehicle will certainly be Ford.

Ford Rocks!

They have great quality ( I have driven Ford pickup trucks since 1993 and I've had the occasional annoyance but mostly they've been awesome). This year they've won a bunch of awards for cars.

I bought the Yaris only because Ford had no small car with ~40mpg. I really wanted to buy a Ford there, too.

I have little experience with General Motors.

Plus, Ford took NO GOVERNMENT BAILOUT MONEY. That makes them A1 in my book.

Plus, Ford took NO GOVERNMENT BAILOUT MONEY.

That is a point. However, weren't they in better financial shape? Somehow, I have a feeling that if they'd gotten to the level that GM or Chrysler were at, they'd have been in Washington DC with their hands held out.

Yes and no.

Ford were and weren't. They had mortgaged EVERYTHING so they could recreate themselves into a company that would succeed.

GM was arrogantly saying 'oh we're fine, we're fine...oh oh we need a BAILOUT! WAHHHH! WAAAHHHH!!'

Ford even mortgaged their trademark 'blue oval.'

They will succeed. They are a real company. GM is despicable, in my opinion.

i still can't get the music, or whatever that sound was from those arrogant Hummer commercials outta my head, I never knew anyone with a Saab and Saturn is gone too.

On changing oil: any association between not changing oil and vehicles being more reliable is purely by chance.

Regular oil and filter changes at or more frequent than the mfg recommendation is the cheapest thing one can to to prolong the life of the car's engine.

On Chrysler quality:

My '97 Neon has not been a very reliable car. Problems with brakes (booster fails intermittnatly), head gasket (leaks oil when motor cools down), and transmission (won't go into reverse when engine cold). But my '99 300M has had zero reliability issues. It did have a slight leak on one of the transmission oil cooler lines but a quick tightening of the clamps with a screwdriver fixed that. And, after 11 years, it still has the original battery!

In highlander and Lexus SUV style hybrids the HV cables go under the floorboards-I thought this was in all Toyota Hybrids-for safety and efficiency-the cables then have a shorter path to the motors-esp the rear axle electric traction motors in 4WD Toyota hybrids.Didn't think there was any HV cables in present newer Toyota hybrid cars going thru the roof pillars. It would sound illogical to run them there. And some of these wires have to be pretty heavy guage. The ones going to-from the motors, traction batteries. In Highlanders and Lexus Hybrids-the traction batteries are under the back seats behind the driver seats. Not sure on the Prius.Would think therir traction batteries would be under the seats too.
