Just out of interest does anyone have any idea how old the machine might be? I can see that it is a Whirlpool.
It is possible that the companion slant front dryer might have been paired with a slant front washer - companies like Harrods did import small volumes of American appliances or they could have been sold to US military based here or in Europe. I would guess that if there was a slant front washer that, when it was beyond repair, it was replaced by the Whirlpool TL and the dryer just kept rolling along.

I am sure these items were listed before and elsewhere although not for any more than they are being listed for now. Problem with both of these that spares will be almost impossible to find find here and I can recall when John (Combo52) visited he was very interested to see the differences between the EE washers and dryers and the superficially similar Westinghouse models which he was familiar with so there is little likely hood that EE parts, even if available, would fit

Dryers often out last washing machines by a good margin, especially the older well built units. Many American households rubbished perfectly good dryers when buying a new washer only because Madame wanted a matched set. Consumer magazines and other sources of advise admonished this practice, but there you are.
Happily many appliance dealers back in the day gave "liberal trade in allowances" for old units. They would be taken away and often end up being resold as second hand.
While each unit has their own benefits and detractions, one assumes that Whirlpool TL gave better performance on average than a Westinghouse FL. Which might have prompted owner of set (if both came from same source), to replace the FL with a TL washer.

Looking at the pictures could that be a US style plug on the power lead on the floor to the right of the picture? I can see the washer running off a step down transformer but would the dryer be 240v? And if it was I guess it could be adapted to work on our 240v here. The seller is in Helensburgh in Scotland, I wonder if they came over with a US serviceman possibly based at the Royal Naval base at Faslane, that's not too far away from there.

American military and diplomatic postings are known for bringing over appliances wherever they go, so again it isn't impossible. But the age gap between appliances is interesting.

This was from the later 70s like Glenn said. I believe this model is from 1978, and was the last year before the lid handle became the recessed plastic version.
