I bought a mix when I saw it at Wegmans. It wasn't cheap and I had high hopes that it would be good. It was easy to make and bake, taste though was another story, not so good at all. Your mileage may vary.

Have you watched that commercial for Dump Cake ?

Never saw anything so vile in my life. You spread the bottom of a baking pan with Chocolate Morsels or things of the like, "Dump in the Cake Mix and then pour a can of soda, Yes Soda (Cola or whatever) and bake it.

YUK.  A Diabetic's dream come true.

Then the same woman does "Dump Meals".  In a Crock Pot, Raw Rice, Can of soup, Raw Pork Chops then a envelope of the "Magic". Go to work and come home to Pork Chops with 12,000+ milligrams of sodium.  Wash that down with a soda and have a slice of Dump Cake for dessert.

All your basic food groups. Just Sayin'

I mean that stuff must sail right through ya.  I can't imagine what the ingredients are in something like that.

Well...

As I was looking through the cake mixes last weekend, which were on BOGO, like the last thing I need is cake! I couldn't help but be reminded of a thread here that talked about how the size of the box mix has gradually gone down over the past 10 years or so.

Then, I spotted this brand on the bottom shelf. Picked it up and the box was huge. Nearly double the weight of mainstream brands. So I figured, what the hell and threw it in the cart. It was near the five dollar mark or maybe slightly above, so it better WOW me.

I have two Cake Doctor cookbooks and love using cake mixes as a starting point for carrot, lemon poppyseed, coffeecakes.

Hy-Vee brand cake mixes are still 18.25 ounces (the standard for years). All the major brands have been reduced to 15.25 ounces, which doesn't sit well with the many recipes I use with cake mix as a base. Only 99 cents to boot!

Haven't seen the Cake Doctor mixes, but it would have to be pretty damn good to justify the stiff price.

Let us know what you think of it, Malcolm.
