Somebody did a really helpful post a couple of years ago on all the codes servicepeople use on LG horizontal-axis washing machines to make them do stuff that the home user isn't supposed to know about. I'm having trouble finding that post. In the mean time, what buttons do you push to make the door open during the cycle when it's locked internally?

If ....

...the door lock is defective you may not be able to open it using the controls. Unplug the machine and wait about 15 minutes. See if the door will open. If the washer has an access panel at the bottom, remove it. There will be a plastic pull ring that will unlatch the door just under the door lock assembly.

Try pushing start, spin speed and soil level at the same time. If all the control lights illuminate, that's where the codes will appear. As long as everything is o.k. , it will begin functions in order of programs it will perform. It flows water through the different channels for dispensing, tumbles clockwise, tumbles counter clockwise, spins the lower speed, turns on the pump, spins the higher speed, and , if any of the functions are faulty, it has lettering like " DL" for door lock. Unplug the machine, wait five minutes then press and hold the start/pause button fifteen seconds. Plug the unit back in. Select a program and push start. It should lock then either begin filling or chime lighting up the letters to let you know what's wrong. Mine showed "DL". I called LG @ (800) 243-0000 ,gave them the code and was told I needded
a new door lock assembly. I ordered it on line, got it a week later and it took me fifteen minutes and $51 to fix. Now, it purrs. It has the best washing actions, fastest 1300 RPM spin and a great water recirculating system that sprays down during the wash and rinse programs. It also has a dominant spin method and a longer spin program. Most loadsl take less then thirty minutes to dry in the dryer.Have fun!! My newer addition steam model needs a new spider pullie, a new inner wash basket and new seals. Bobs fix it shop does work on LG and has ordered the parts and will be back next week to do the warranty work on this one.

Thank you for the responses, but...

No, no, there isn't anything wrong with the door lock; it functions as it should. It's just that once in a while I'd like to open the door of the machine when the interlocking mechanism won't let me because there's water in the tub. I know there's a service code that would bypass that safety interlock and I was wondering if anybody knew what it was.

I think you've said you had the service manual?  I know I have downloaded it but I don't remember off-hand if there were "cheat" codes like you mention in it.  I sold my LG (same model you have) last summer and have missed it several times.  I didn't think it was a bad washer at all and rather miss it sometimes.

This was posted a while back, is this what you remember?  Doesn't look like same model, though the codes may work.
