You can be fired in any state without reason, as long as it's not the wrong reason (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - protected classes - race, religion, gender, color, ethnic origin, age (over 40), etc.). Only California offers additional protections over and above Title VII. Some cities have codes that prohibit such discriminations, but it's often difficult to prove, since you can be fired without cause. U.S. employment law is very weak compared to those of many European countries where employees have more rights. We actually have relatively few rights as U.S. employees.
