Caloric Avocado Madness

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Does anyone looking at it need me to mention the seam between the cooktop and the side of the cabinet where grease accumulates? I found one and was going to use it outside, but that grease situation was just too gross.

or don't cook with grease.

Not many ranges back then were designed with easy cleaning in mind. Men didn't clean much, so why would they care?
No sealed burners yet either.

It is attractive.

I like 70's appliances. My mom had a Tappan gas with electric warming shelf.
My aunts had either Magic Chef of the same era and avocado color, or lower end Tappans.
One had a Tappan double oven 400 built in. Then she remodeled with a Litton double oven with convection/microwave combo. The old Tappan 400 went up north to the cottage.
Then my folks moved and left the appliances behind. Their new place had a late 50's 36 inch Frigidaire range. After a year, they got all new gold Kenmore. Nothing special.
I started with low end apartment appliances. In 1988, as a first time home owner with a Magic Chef tol gas self clean, and GE side by side, Maytag reverse rack.
Now we have a slide in GE dual fuel, etc. Not vintage, but we like them.
We are home cooks. Made pork wellington with cornbread stuffing and cherry port wine sauce the other day.
You being an appliance repair guy, probably don't have much time to cook.
I used to eat a lot of quick and easy meals back in my career days also. Or I was working on the road, so I had to eat lunch out.

The AMKrayo Krap Katcher: (Look if you dare!)

A Transition between the Classic Calorics of old & the Whirlpool/Roper ownership creeping up...

Yes, CR downrates the cleanability of that cooktop enough that you wish for the grease-catcher design to be gone, then, again what excuse do I have? (Look here:)

Gas Cook-Top Cleaning

No GCT is truly easy to clean, and on this older non-sealed Caloric GCT you can easily lift the entire top up and off the range for cleaning [ you can clean it outside with Easy-Off ], then all the burners lift out, and you are left with an easy to clean porclean sub-top where nothing burns on.

The burner grates from the Caloric go in the Self-Cleaning, its a little bit of effort but as I said no gas range CT is as easy to clean as my Induction CT, LOL.

I have to agree John L.

Stains are difficult to get off the burners if they don't burn off. The grates are heavy, get greasy. A built in style collects grease and grime under the adjoining counter edge, and requires a toothpick to clean under.

Yes, that is what I was calling attention to—my counter edge, that I’ll go as far as to retrieve whatever food particles fall there that I don’t want to waste or don’t fall into any unusability...

Thankfully you can give credit to the modern designs for making cleanup easier than on the range tops of old...!
