I believe Gansky1 had a Rapid Advance D&M, and it could have been Caloric, and it did have the digital timer countdown like this one.  This one has that funky rack arrangement that wasted so much space.  Even Consumer Report didn't like it.  Surprising, the top rack height for glasses was quite deceiving.  Friends that moved to a Dallas suburb in 1985 or 1986 had a lsightly lower line model Caloric.  I loved the top rack.  It actually left no yibblits.

I've never ever needed such a thing! The way I load DIRTY dishes and let them sit and never rinse or scrape a darn thing, only a complete dumb*ss could ever need a sticker to tell them what's up! My 1981 Hotpoint Potscrubber works miracles.

Mark glad yours does.  I built my dream house in Spring of 1985--exactly 25 years ago today, I closed on the house I am now living in when I was transferred with my job.  The house I built had a GE PotScrubber.  This house had a 1984 Hotpoint PotWasher (check the name on your control panel).  it was a pathetic cousin to the real GE PotScrubber.  Just couldn't handle my BobLoads at all.  (You know what it's like to hand wash rice yibblits out of and off of every glass in a dish load?  After 14 months I couldn't  take it any longer with all the entertaining and cooking I did.  I yanked that machinie out and put in my GE GSD1200 and never looked back.  A difference of night & day.  Oh, and I don't need one of those silly signs on the door either for the same reason.  Now everyone else in my family ......

Thanks variflexpghpa for posting. These are the models I didn't like because they added a tower and put the upper arm on top (kind of ridiculous) - seems like they were trying to be like maytag (no way). This was like I think the 1st series of these models from the late 70's that were made that way. Seems like at that point sears kept the better design interior machines. I Think the one above that I had posted was the last of the good series with the arm under each rack and no tower. This design is what I think ruined the D&M reputation. A lot of people would go to sears to get one with the more usable wash interior. Modern Maid also kept the better design until the end.

Peter, these were actually more early 1980s.  And Sears actually did sell one or two models of this tyle of rack arrangement.  I saw it in a Sears store in Dallas when I was visiting friends in like 1983 or 1984--I was killing time at the Sears.  They still had the fullsize spray arm under the top rack for a while even when they were selling this arrangement.  I remember looking at some houses when I was in the process of moving here, that are in my subdivision, that were built in 1985 (late).  The kitchens had kenmore appliances and they were still D&M dishwashers, but they had "evolved" such that they kept the tower, but changed the rack design to be more "GE"ish.  They also got rid of the ful-size spray arms at the top and went back to a smaller more normal "spritzer" and raised the top rack for better bottom rack clearance.

Bob I never remember sears ever having a full arm on top. I remember at one point in the mid to late 80's the BOL 2 models had towers and one had the small arm on top. The ones even the TOL had small arms at the very top. I only think that big arm at the top was exclusive to other D&M designs.

Well Peter, I'm here to tell ya, I saw it with my own eyes and this was before they sold any other brand at Sears.  I first saw it in one of those small newsprint type catalogues that came in the mail.  I was intrigued because it looked a bit different but didn't have very revealing pictures.  It was, I believe, one of those special sale catalogs for Christmas season.  I'd never seen anything like it.  The model Sears had on the floor was quite feature-button laden.  This was also about the time Sears started sourcing from WP for their brand new UltraWash.  Then my neighbors got transferred to Austin in 1985 (the year before I got sent here) and their new house (brand new) had one of these types of Calorics.  I had always been intrigued by this arrangement since i had seen it in the store, but once I saw how "full" you could get this thing quite quickly (wasted space), I lost my intrigue.  Then a couple of years later my other friends bought their house in Garland (Dallas suburb).  It was a spec house that had sat empty for a couple of years.

Thanks David for posting the consumer report from 1987 - I do remember reading it many a moon ago! As for the panasonic I remember seeing this in the review but never saw one on display. At this time the sears had the better D&M designs and I would say from this page I would also select whirlpool as great loading. But of course whirlpool would always come in Tops for cleaning!
Also as for the caloric that variflexpghpa posted - Roper also made the same model with the same countdown display. That just came to me.
