Can a felt seal for a dryer be made?

I am in the process of doing maintenance on my 7305 Asko dryer bought in 1997. Grinding noise let me to discover that the front felt seal was mangled/torn needing replacement. A new felt seal is $70. Because it appears that it is a 1.5" wide, 1/4" thick felt strip folded over and held on by clips (no glue), I am wondering if I could make one out of felt weatherstriping or some other cotton or wool felt fabric.

Has anyone ever done this on a dryer? I don't think the material has to be fire retardant as I tested a piece of felt from the old seal and it caused a flame.
