Can a second buzzer be put on a dryer to signal remotely?

I have a Kenmore Dryer that is in the basement. (Model 110.76490600 Serial F42104927). The unit has a variable volume buzzer, but I am usually on the second floor and have no hope to hear the buzzer at that distance.

Is there a way to add a remote second buzzer?

The most direct approach I can think of is to put splitters on the buzzer terminals and run an identical buzzer off of them. (I am attaching a schematic with the terminal jumps marked with red dots)

Can this be done? The buzzer is 110VAC, correct? How interchangeable are Kenmore buzzers at this point in time.

Your idea would work as long as you use a 110v buzzer in the remote location, but I would strongly recommend that you have an electrician do the wiring so that it meets your electrical codes and is run safely. This is not a low voltage situation and can be very dangerous if not done correctly. There are probably other options utilizing lower voltage alternatives and relays but the Electrician could advise you best on it.

God forbid, it causes a fire because it was not done properly, you would risk non payment from your insurance company.

I agree with Bill. Why not try a baby monitor. It would be a lot cheaper probably than running wiring from the basement all the way to where you would install it. Plus it gives you the advantage of moving it anywhere in the house with you without being a nuisance.

What about a wireless / remote door bell?   This way you can have the "ringer" on the 2nd floor near where you are.   Or yes the baby monitor is a great idea too!

I used to use a baby monitor for the machines in the basement and it worked great. They are cheap at yard/rummage/church thrift sales. A wind up minute timer in your pocket is another option until you find the baby monitor.
