Performed several commercial mop head spin tests over varying machines.
The videos speak volumes.

Spin Balance Test

Always a neat demonstration, almost any washer will do this if the machine is on a solid floor.

A new VMW, or Samsung washer will not fly apart with this test, it may not reach top speed however.

The reason that some machines have self-destructed during the spin cycle is because the load becomes unbalanced AFTER THE WASHER REACHES A VERY HIGH SPIN SPEED, this usually happens when plastic covered items are washed and water is traped in the thin plastic and the plastic ruptures at high speed throwing the washers tub wildly out of balance when the traped water escapes.

Even a 1955 Frigidaire Uni-Matic would be destroyed if you wash this type of item in it.

Note; SQ washers are water tested at the factory so the pump is full of water and will not be damaged by running the machine without it being hooked up to water.

Well, that was interesting, but how much does that phonebook weigh?

Because even machines people used to call trash can apparently spin a ball filled with a gallon of water (a bit over 8 lbs) just fine. If I remember right, the ad for the GE plastic tub 3.2 cu ft in the late 90's they ran a gallon of milk in the spin cycle and a bunch of wine glasses on top showing how stable it was.

(I couldn't find the GE ad on YouTube, but the Westinghouse Heavy Duty 15 is still there, link bellow).
