Wow - that is a very interesting looking pair. They weren't in the dealer's catalog in 2000 when we bought our set.

Very intriguing. Canadian model, I assume. Hadn't seen a KA dryer without a drop-down door. The control arrangement is also different. The consoles have the curved lines of later models. Any way to pin-down the model numbers or find instruction manuals online?
Kitchenaid Pair
This pair is being advertised on a classified site similar to craigslist. Have not seen them in person or heard back from the seller.
I wanted to research before deciding. In reading through various posts here, I note that advice to avoid electronic controls has come from some quarters.
Have googled every description I can think of - no luck.
I can find no access to manuals without model numbers.
Searched this site (awo) and found nothing, other than a vague mention or two of an original Kitchenaid pair with electronic controls, but the photos don't match.
The ad simply says something like Kitchenaid set - good condition nothing else about the machines.
I guess I thought that someone here would have seen them before.
Don't know what to say about the dryer door. I have seen both types here.

Year of KitchenAid washer
I believe that washer was introduced in 1996 I have a Sears pamphlet dated 1996 and it shows the washer but the dryer still has the drop down door, the washer did not have a porcelain top or lid the trade mark name is DURAKOTE. I believe that the dryer was introduced in 97 or 98, the electronics was the same as was used in Kenmore limited editions and top of the Line Whirlpools and I believe was very reliable. I have a Kenmore Limited Edition since 1988 and never have had a problem this I believe is the second generation of Whirlpool electronic control and was produced for a number of years. i have another KitchenAid Sales brochure form 2001 or 2002 and I believe that the dryers have the door shown but all models were manual no electonics, hope this helps when I have time I will search for the other brochure, also porcelain tops and lids were reintroduced several years later.

The dryer shown above looks to have the same door as Wringersteve's new Amana dryer shown in thread #36645.
My cousin Melanie had a KitchenAid set like this, but I think the washer got ruined when a van crashed through their house, and knocked it over.

I gave a similar KitchenAid branded dryer to a friend with the side-opening door, however hers has standard dial controls. Very nice dryer, love that huge opening door - you don't have to crawl on the drop-down shelf to reach a sock at the back of the machine. I like both door styles, loading is easier with the drop-down (no clothes on the floor) and the side-opening door is nicer for unloading.
I think that was KA last electronic pair before going fully manual.

If your washer is to be used in an indoor laundry room, I wouldn't worry about the electronic controls. We still have out 1993 Whirlpool electronic control set and only had one problem with the controls, and we fixed it by just disconnecting and reconnecting a ribbon cable.
Now if your machine were to be used on an patio or in a garage, I'd opt for manual controls.

Odd though.....for a TOL machine, not only should the door drop down, but would also have a window in it.....

This is a good pair but be ware that the controls are probably NLA and even if you do find them they will be very expensive. The fully electronically controlled WP built dryers are more reliable than the washers that are all electronic, but either one can give you problems.
The first fully electronic WP built dryers came out in late 1964 and 1965 with the LKM names on them. The first washers came out in 1977 under the KM and WP names. The first KAs came out around 1989 with electronic controls and these were 2nd generation but for some reason in the KA washer these were very problem prone. The ones that you are looking at are 3rd generation and you stand a decent chance that they will work properly, they used the same controls on a TOL WP laundry pair also.
