I have a motor that I believe is going bad on a Whirlpool direct drive washer. Looks like a newer motor replacement on an older machine, but gets way too hot when ran, and now it won't even start without manually turning it. Capacitor has been tested and is good. But I'll replace that anyways when I replace the motor. Just was wondering though how long ago exactly this was replaced, because it's definitely not the original motor to the machine.

Picture of the motor info along with MFG date below:

Anyone know too if these motors are supposed to be hot to the touch after one cycle? Mine was always very hot after a single cycle but never smelled or had any problems. Haven’t felt the one on my Kenmore as of yet as I haven’t had a reason to take the cabinet off. Given these motors are so old I would think a little heat would be normal.

Depending on how sensitive your fingers are to temperature

The motor should feel either uncomfortably warm or even be too hot to keep your fingers on after it runs a cycle, that’s not very scientific, but it should be quite hot.

Modern three phase motors in top load and front load washers barely get hot at all they will be a little bit warm only
