The seller calls it a Superba and says it needs a few new parts (hose & wheels for the racks)
Also, what do you think the likelihood of me being able to swap out those wood panels for my own?

I'm hoping to have the model numbers when my darling brother picks it up for me tomorrow. He and the dishwasher live about 4 hours away. He's going to pick it up and bring it to me. Yea! I never thought I would be excited about an OLDER dishwasher.

Looks like a

KDS21 series unit.
You can put your own panels on the door and lower panel. These machines came with the 4 color panels as standard equipment and all you had to do is take them out and load your own panels into the stainless steel frame as shown in the picture.
There is a good chance that the original painted metal ones are still behind the wooden panels.. check and see when you get the machine.

Parts are offically obsolete from Whirlpool.. So many still working machines that will outlast anything the make today and they are forcing them off the market!

There are many of us here who still have a nice supply of spares for these and older units. Just ask!

looks like a 21

to me. i don't have a 21 superba but i have a 21 and that top panel looks awfully similiar. if it's a 21 it was made from 84-89 according to my production chart.

as steve said parts are around, just have to hunt a bit and put the word out. it prob will run fine, i have only had to replace one seal out of all my kitchenaids, including some from the 50's. and those motors are built to last!

Is that coppertone? It looks kind of like tanned leather in your photo. Now that would look nice, take the front panel off and apply some brown tanned leather to it. It'd be unusual and look great!
