I already owe a debt of gratitude to the members here who've schooled me, tolerated my ignorance, and pointed me toward suitable appliances. We are gathering them, with some already in use, for a kitchenl/laundry remodel, likely to begin when I retire in the next 18-24 months. Hopefully!

I recently bought my wife the NOS Lady Kenmore that was posted up by another member, xpanam. That thing does clean well, and fast. It will nearly take a coat of paint off of a wall! It uses lots of water, that is not a concern to me. My concern is that it's a top-loader, and my wife is only just "grinning and bearing it.". In our postage-stamp sized kitchen, she needs every bit of available counter space, so I told her I'd keep searching for a TOL Kitchenaid front load portable.

Can anyone help me out, pointing me toward one for sale, or selling one themselves? Would throw in the Lady Kenmore, as well, if anyone is interested. Hoping to find something along the lines of a KDS 57 or 58 . Willing to pay a premium price for a premium example, and willing to drive a "fur piece", as it seems these are difficult to find just now in my area.

Please, help me keep the marital harmony I've worked so long to maintain, wink-wink!

Cheers,
Steve

KA Portable is a tough find out here...

but should you ever be able to move up in size, I have some KA Superbas here (it's all I will own/use). All near-vintage (as in 1980s-mid 90s…which retain a vintage-ish design). Pardon the blurry pic…but you get the idea.

Steve, if I recall correctly, I recently saw a portable KA for sale locally on CL.  I think it was one of the models with the towel bar up front.  I thought of you, but also knew you had found the LK dishwasher.

Maybe you saw the ad I'm referring to, and the machine was newer than what you're looking for, or another top loader.  I'll keep an eye out for you.

Thanks, . . .

. . .Ralph, there is an KA Imperial model still available up in Auburn, on the Sacramento C.L., it is pretty rough. Looks like it has lead a tough life. I am hoping for a Superba Model, a KDS? Is that TOL?

Allen, I have a KDS 20, for when we switch to a built in in the future. In fact, Ralph was kind enough to give me a great rack, as well as some other spare parts for it.

I settled on that model after being a lurker for awhile, reading all the conversations on portables. As Yogi Berra once said, " You can observe alot, by just watching. " Yet there does seem to be at least one member that totally disagrees with the wisdom of the majority regarding KA. Why is that?

If one ever finds a decent KA or WP portable

In our neck of the woods then the GE will likely have to go.

It is a great machine for what it does, but having to remove and replace things on top to get inside got old fast. If someone has a kitchen where counter space is plentiful thus can simply throw a doily or something equally light and small on top, fine. But am here to tell you having to shift things off that DW three or more times a day is bothering me no end.

Often just keep the odd dirty dish in the fridge until have a full enough "load" to warrant opening the Mobile Maid. If after loading dishes after dinner find have forgotten something it is either washed by hand or stuck in the fridge until next day.

Long story short you can easily see why top loading dishwashers died out and the design never was revived.

The only saving grace of the Mobile Maid is it the huge capacity but also being slightly narrower than standard front loading portables.

In fact if one ever comes across one of those "counter top" Asko or AEG dishwashers the MM may get the push..... *LOL*
