Can Oil be added through the shaft seal opening?

One of my DD transmissions has leaked quite a bit of oil (through the coupler shaft) I have confirmed this. I am worried that maybe more has gotten out as I realized. When I noticed it, there was maybe about the size of a quarter on the floor. Without having to open the gearcase up and reseal it, I would rather just add a few drops through the coupler shaft. Is this possible or no?

Adding oil to a direct drive washer around the input shaft

I would say this is next to impossible, and if you only had a spot the size of a quarter so you haven’t lost enough oil to worry about you would have to lose nearly 3/4 of a cup of oil before you affect the operation of the washer transmission.

Ok. I won’t worry about it. Only thing is I’m not sure how much oil has leaked out in the past. Are there any signs the gear case would give off to let me know there isn’t enough oil inside?
