My Braun hand blendor bit the dust, or rather made some the other day. I have had this thing since 1988.It lived a good life. I am not really pleased with the new Brauns that I see in the stores, So this time, I am going with something else, although, I do not know about what model is good, what I should need, which is the best, does anyone here have one and can fill me in. How much I can expect to pay for one, what am I looking at on E-bay if I choose to buy it there. The works, hot me!!

Bamix is like Miele

Hi Ritchie,

Bamix is another product that still appears to be made to last forever.

5 Members of my family still have Bamixes from the 70's which are whirring away with only the replacement of the lower seal after 30 years of service.

I have 2, a standard model from the early 80's, and a new one the Gastro 200, which I bought to use in my 15L stockpot. (Has a much longer shaft) There is no perceptable difference between my 20yo model, and my 4 yo model. The weight and quality feel exactly the same.

The only difference between between the other models is the acessories that come with it, and that the SwissLine has a higher minimum RPM. Unfortunately in the US you seem to be limited to 140Watts, thats not a bad thing, It just reduces the run time. My 110W model from the 1980's has a 10minute on 10minute off reccomended use pattern. The new one, rated at 200W has a 15minute on, 15minute off usage guide.

Otherwise they're easy to clean, the only maintenance is a couple of drops of sewing machine oil under the removable base every 6 months or so, depending on usage.

I hope this helps.

I have a Bamix I found at a thrift store last year and like it very much. After I found it I gave my KA to the SIL. I didn't care for the KA because it was so large and ungainly. Like holding a baseball bat over the pot. The Bamix is much more comfortable to wield and hold onto and quieter. It seems to be very well made. I didn't get the other blades that come with it though.

buy an older BRAUN

I would look for another BRAUN of the same vintage - either for the replacement parts or as a complete replacement. My BRAUN blender in Germany has been running since the early 1960's with only the occasional (every ten years or so) replacement of the seal.

It's a good price. They appear to be recons or liquidations that they're selling. Bamix is pretty unknown in N.America, they had some infomercials a few years back or the only other place you saw them was at a hawkers booth in the fairgrounds. They weren't that cheap when they first tried selling them so that's probably why there's a lot on liquidation.
