Can you give any info about this Whirlpool Imperial MK XII?

I am posting this for my friend Russell.

He saw this ad for these Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII's when he was a young boy. He was so enamored by them, that he cut out the ad and pasted it into a scrap book. Being young and not knowing any better, he had cut and trimmed off the rest of the ad, leaving only this photo.

If at all possible he would like to know:

1. What year these are?

2. Have you ever seen these machines before?

3. Do you have any other ads or photos of them?

4. Do you know if any of these still exist?

This is his ultimate dream set and he would really love to know more about them.

Can any of you help?

to answer your question,
my mother bought hers in 1958. I was four years old and rember it well. the glass things showed the cycles and set time speed and temp when on one of the cycles. the lid used to lock but it broke so mon took to keeping her big box of Cheer on it to keep it closed. it had two or three water levels and the water fall filter. the dryer was rather noisey that I rember and it was noiser out side by the vent. one could hear it rather clearly from a short distance. the machine also had an end of cycle bell, very loud when going off just like a school bell. good hot dryer. hope this of help.

Whirlpool!

Actually 58 was the last year they made the push button to open the lid. I knew someone that had a simular model I think it was a 57 without the lint filter and it was a time line style but didn't have multiple cycles and only a water temp dial. I would like to see the whole lineup of these washers.

I don't know where I heard this. . .but I was under the impression that this style wasn't good for Whirlpool.

When the machine would spin and vibrate, it would knock the horizontal timer apparatus haywire.

True or False?

Hi Dan - I never heard this one. The people I knew that had that time line machine never had that problem and had the machine from about 1957 - 1970 with minimal maintance and very heavy use. But who knows! I would still love to see some old whirlpool literature!

Couldn't have put it better myself, except to say that this goes back to when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade; and my playmate down the street had this very set (same color too) in their house. I can still hear it running (whirring, like a Whirlpool should) and smell a hint of bleach in the air! ...

And sometimes, as a bonus; her grandmother would be there on occaision making home-made yeasty cinnamon rolls. Yep, that was one favorite place to be, and one of my FAVORITE childhood memories.

It was most intriguing, to me ,the "dramatic" end of a cycle. while the motor (pump) was still running, the spinning would stop, the lid would pop open, the flourescent console still lit; and it would buzz intermittedly several times, for what seemed like five minutes or so. Then, ... the whirring stopped, the lights went out, END OF SHOW, FOLKS!!!

This model had a spring loaded lid, so you had to press the latch release button to open the lid. As a kid I had a love/hate relationship with this. While I thought it was really neat, I didn't want the buzzing to attract attention that I was peeking under the lid!

The closest I've seen to this on here is a POD that pops up once in a while of a pink W/P Imperial that advertises two speeds.

Quite a while back, before I found AW.org I happend across a site that I think may have featured this very "DREAM MACHINE' in an ad that read: "A WASHER SO SIMPLE, MY SEVEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CAN USE IT!" ??? Then I hit the wrong button or something, and it disappeared; and I haven't seen it since.

So, what do ya think, Robert, / Whirlpool fans? Is there a ghost of a chance any of these be around? It may very well be the second wonder/Apex, of the world. ha ha! With the lights, bells & whistles,these were the "Cats Pajamas".in my opinion.
