YAY !!! A canadian cold front pushed its way all the way down here ! We had rain throughout the night, and it is overcast and 77 outside at lunchtime! What a relief from 100 to 103 degrees daily !

YAY for cool fronts!

It went down to 55 here last night it felt so good to finally turn the AC off and open the windows. The cool breeze blew through the house all night and is expected to do it again tonight! I love clear and stary cool nights and warm dry 82 degree blue sky days. More like I normal summer weather here, you can keep the 90 to 95 degree temperatures thank you very much.

HA!

My upper level guest suite (under the roof)has a min/max electronic thermometer and recorded a high of 103 degrees F.

Rigging up a relay and low voltge thermostat to run the wall unit up there to maintain no more than 90 degrees!

The central air kicked in at 4:30 pm. (It kicks in also when the indoor temp reaches 85 during the day--on the main level). When I got home by 9pm the main floor was still 82 degrees!

Fired up the supplemental livign room unit. (Vestigial organ from pre-central cooling days). AHHHHHHH!

It's just too darn hot!

YAY Canada!!

I don't do hot or humid weather well

That's why I like it just where I am. Most days hover around the 70 - 80's, the nights drop into the 60's and it's so dry it's hard to break into a sweat. Every couple of years when I go home in the summer I can't wait to leave. Here at least when it does get even warmer I can sit out in the shade and not perspire.

as I type this at work it is almost 100 degrees and 70 percent humidity. The plant is on "load management"-we have to run a utility supplied deisel generator to run most of our plant load on.It's supposed to cool off later tonight out here-a cold front from the west is on its way.We haven't had a "load managment" day in a few years out here.

Thankfully the cold front that pushed through here earlier today spared us some of the nastier thunderstorms this kind of heat and humidity brings on. Much more comfortable working conditionas tonight.

Three cheers for Canadian cold fronts!!! The Midworst has had horrible hot and humid weather the last few weeks. It is so cool and refreshing outside now that I was able to set out in my porch swing this afternoon. It feels so good that I am leaving the front door open all night tonight.

The hum of an AC compressor

All this talk about heat makes me think of sounds that psychologically cool us off. One of the radio stations was interviewing people that were hanging out around the fountain pond in downtown. They were saying just being around the water, and hearing the splashing was enough to cool them down. Not sure if it was any cooler boy the pond and fountains..due to evaporative cooling...but it was certain that the people hanging out around there were beating the heat in their mind.

One of the sounds that I have always liked is the sound of a running air conditioner. The subdued hum of the compressor, combined with the "white" noise of the fans is enough to make me feel very relaxed. Just like the fact that the people at the fountain pond weren't wet, I don't even need to be in the air-conditioned space to feel the comforting effects of the air condioner...just be able to hear it, to enjoy a little bit of it's effect. I am not sure if this is because the noise means comfort is not far, or if it's because the sounds and AC unit makes is naturally pleasing to the human mind.

...as for now, I'm going to go upstairs and relax beside my old Sears Coldspot window unit and wait for the cold front to move through tomorrow!

Well, it's now 74 here with a forecasted low of 68, that is COLD here for this time of year. A high of only 90 tomorrow, has been upper 90s to 100. Omaha was 105 last Sat.

Temps are wonderful here - Skyler and I spent the afternoon cleaning my dad's truck yesterday and our van today! Thankfully my utilities are getting a break. I just got the bills from the month of the convention!

For those curious, we used:

2790 kwh of electric (1800 kwh in 2004)
49.950 therms natural gas (35.0 in '04)
26,180 gallons of water (7480 gals. in '04)

Wowza!

Figured the highest volume increase would be on the water -- those overflow rinses are killers, when there's one after another after another after another after another . . . !

don't pass the hat...

Oh no, water is CHEAP!! The total cost for the water, including taxes, sewer, service charges and dealer prep fees was only $40.62! Keep overflowing!!

Electric is .076 cents per kwh and gas was less than $50 total. We're very lucky to have such reasonable utility rates here - all utilities are public owned entities and we've only had two electric rate increases in the last nine years.

The hum of a VINTAGE AC

Those plastic Goldstar made thingies won't do.

I like the hum of the Air Conditioners of yesterday. And that ice cold air that only REAL FREON can give you. My friend Charlie's 70s Frigidaire unit is way better than any new unit out there.

My parents used to have a late 60s Wizard in the bedroom and it was SOOOOO a treat to hear it run. It had this awesome sounding hum to it whenever the comp would turn on.
