Candy Bi-matic twin tub washing video, comments on agitation......

Do not know if the owner of the video is a member here.
Anyway, I've already seen in person a Candy Bi-matic on works once, I was about 12 years old, and I can say thet first time I got so disappointed to see that it actually had a very poor agitation.
How would you consider the agitation from the video?
Almost all italian agitator washers had this kind of slow and short stroke agitation due to the fact italians have never been able to make agiator types of washers as they should be, this is also why italians in the past found FL's as good, and some even better.
Since my last discussions on here:
Well, this is an agitator machine that I can say might be worse than some frontloaders or drum types at washing!
What's your opinion about?

Would you for example from what you're watching compare The Bi-matic to a maytag wringer or a servis supertwin, about agitation?
For me the difference is abysmal....

GRR Ultraduo another italian twin tub....dated 1952,

Well the english electric was a little slow but at least had long strokes.....

The agitation of the Bimatic doesn't look slow at all, actually I think it is rather vigorous. It's much faster than the agitation of the GRR.

Water Level

Hi Would be good to see a max water level on the candy to Judge how good the turn over is

Yes of course, obviously better than the GRR, that one is just impossible, but I think that "vigorous" and effective are others.

Yes but I think that if this is the agiation in low water you can easily get what it would be if filled to max as I could imagine the one of a servis for example filled with low if an agitation is effective I think you can see it even by empty if a washer would not agitate properly, anyway it has a bad "turnover" at least this is what I think and sought personally by trying this machine and at max water level also.
I mean short and slow strokes does not do that much.....
I had a little discussion with the owner of this video do not know if he is a member here or not but if he is and if he is reading I want say to him: "Se ci sei batti un colpo" (means if you're here knock once), (well BTW he deleted all of the comments mine and his after this and just wondering why), anyway he claimed it's agiation was just comparable and effective as like one of a servis twin tub,this after my suggestion to look on youtube for another twin tub or wringer agitation saying to search for example for a maytag wringer or servis and tell me if for him it was comparable.
Now I'd just like to get some opinions if it's only me not seing in a Bi-matic a good agiation or what.
He might have even looked at this older servis model of which I'm enclosing the link for the video....
I find this one being fairly good.....

Just thought i would say, I think the Candy Bi-Matic is one of the best looking twin tubs of all time !!
It has style & class, and look like it does a good job of washing too. I like the clear spinner lid, the twin-line hose, speckled green wash tub to name just a few.
Do you think there are many still kicking around ?

Yes it is very nice looking, I agree with that, if only would be good at washing it would be in my wishlist....but what this washer do isn't washing for me though......

And sorry I think not, it is a very rare machine,this because it was produced in those yers when having a washer was very rare for italians...
I saw and used it the first time at the house of my aunt's friend ( one of Granma's sisters) when she used to live in Venaria a town near Turin, her friend was still using that washer at times outside in the yard in summer days mostly for light soiled stuff I remember she said....
I was about 12 so I do not even remeber the road where she lived, I cannot even ask to my Aunt as she passed away 3 years ago, but I would have liked to come back now asking if she still have it and buy it, I do not even know if that lady is still alive either...
Looks like you can make good money with one of them, just googled a little bit and found an Ad in Forlì cesena province and it is not even in the best conditions, will need to be restored.
Are you sit down? If you aren't please do...

Well I obviously think the seller is crazy, anyway you might find one for less if you're very very lucky and since I use to make flea markets may be that I find one someday around, I do not promise anything but if you like it that much and I maybe do find one for less and you're interested I could even see to ship it to you to UK... I would like to get the same kindness and favours here so I'm ready to do the same for everyone of course.... we are a community for what then if not for help each other? Insults and fights comes along sometimes also....but what can you do do about that?

I'm looking for a servis twin tub from UK and the estimate shipping for a servis supertwin I got with UPS would be about 171£, I have to get a quote even with Fedex maybe is less....
So guessing weight and sizes are almost the same of a supertwin I think this should be valid even for an Italy to UK shipping....

You could find them in others countries too, maybe there're more possibilities as I know Candy used to export alot also through europe (at least france and Belgium), actually I think they sold more models outside rather than in Italy......

I would have said the agitation on that Candy is much the same as my old Servis TT, although it is a long time ago so my memory might not be perfect. As to the one for sale, I would offer them 100 Euros which is a more than fair price. The last time I saw a twintub for sale in UK it was priced at £60.

I never seen a servis twin tub or wringer in action in person but actually looks like they gives a good washing action, at least from what I can see from the videos of memebers, anyway you can easily see it...the agitation of the Candy looks and looked very different to me....

The agitation arc of the candy is about 50°.....too less.

Yep, 100 euros would be okay if you were in UK where twin tubs and old machines are not that rare, but as I said in Italy is very rare to see a washer from that period because it was very rare to have one for italians, so of course they're going to have higher prices because of the rarity, and who deals in Vintage merchndise know it... I think a fair price for that would be around 250 euros because need a little restore, but for a fully working and in nice condition I think the price would be around 350 euros at least they're the prices I would expect from the people who know the age of the machine and at least a little history, I will not mention the people who deals in antiques, it will gonna be easily 1000 euros and up and they would probably find some crazy people who would spend that money as their average customers are rich ignorant people who does not even know what they're going buying at, they just know it's old, I see many of them doing so for things you could usually and easily find for less elsewhere if you are into...but they point mostly for the rare and vintage nature in Italy and to ignorant people....as I think the guy of the Ad is doing, he probably has asked to an antiques shop and got this quote. Anyway what I know is that it is normal to see crazy prices for modern antiques stuff into "specialized" shop or dealers, at least here in Italy.......crazy people anyway.
You may be lucky on find one for less from an old lady or people at flea markets who use to empty basements of old houses for business re-selling the things that for them are valuable second hand items, this washer probably would not be, most of them would just look at it as an old machine and so sell for 50-100 euros, and most would not even take the bother trying to sell and carry it to markets as they would care much of others kind of smaller stuff but it may be you can find one from them if you're very lucky, I have a few friedns who use to do that for business...
For example from the ones who are in business with vintage stuff, 100 euros is the average price for an vintage 1960s Quick Mill coffee grinder, so proportionally 1000 would be the price for this machine, for example I got my vintage quick mill grinder for 10 euros from one of these "basement emptiers" so, it may be you could find one from them, again if you're very lucky, never took the bother to search as I don't like it.....
One of the video comments of the Candy Bi-matic I watched said that they have found two of this machine in a basement in an old rich house of Trieste....
You just have to be lucky finding others yourself...ardous task anyway, you just have to be very lucky.....

It reminds me of an Ada Washing machine - my mother had an Adamatic twin tub and this machine even looks like one; the control panel on the front is similar too - the only thing missing from the front is the lever! The agitation arc is very small - like Ada's were. There is a clip on YouTube of an Ada washer - check it out

Rarity

Rarity does not determine price, it is a case of supply and demand. If there are a lot of vintage appliance enthusiasts in Italy the prices will be high. I'm into classic motorcycles and one of the most common machines, the '60s Triumph 650 twin commands a much higher price in UK than many much rarer models.

Yes of course also of demand but not always, in Italy there're not so many VTG aplliance lovers, (for what I mean for lovers) at least from what I know and see making flea markets...
Most of the people buying at antique's shops or stalls in flea markets (in Italy) look and see at the vintage appliances only as an "ornament" never seen one in Italy buying one of my VTG steam irons, or electric fan, toaster or what else to use it asking "Is it working?" They just say " It would be nice to put it on the cupboard shelf" They just care if it is in good shape to display as a "knick knack"..... Again this is in Italy, for example in USA there're many VTG lovers as I mean for lovers who would use stuff as they recognize all the qualities of the VTG items.....
Those people that goes to look at the antiques stalls does not even look at the dusty stall of the "basement emptier" even if actually maybe had the same thing and even in better shape they bought at the antique stalls for 10 times it's value, begulled by the sellers with the "rarity" of the object, I let you Imagine what they would do with a machine like that....
This is what I ment.
And anyway it is clear that an object like this washer of the 60s in Italy have another starting value than another country where having a washer in the 60s was more usual, so I'm just saying that generally if to someone would happend to find one in the Granny's basement for example, and decide to sell it, I mean someone knowing it's age and a little history, and so the fact that in Italy few people had the privilege to own a washer in those periods, it would surely have another starting value because of the object being a "rare find" a rare object to be find here..... the object would be seen differently....I do not know if I'm enough clear...
There would be also who drop VTG stuff directly to the city dump by thinking it being trash.....and unfortunately there're many, but for those that even a little knows and understand the incomparable quality and beautifulness of the VTG they would anyway have another average value in terms of money at least in the collective idea.
I think it isn't wrong as reasoning.......
So for ex if in UK for the average British the value of a twin tub from the 60s would be for ex 100£, for the average italian it would be 200£....
So I guess this guy of the Ad should have asked to some modern antiques dealees to put the price.

What I ment is that it is common for those who deal in "modern antiques" and so even VTG appliance dealers to raise the price and play the cards of the rarity for an appliance like this washer to sell, they would not seek to sell it to VTG appliance lover or collector that obviously would send them to hell ( and you do not know how many times I sent them to the hell), they look to sell them to people that does not even know what they're about buying at.....
And believe me,in Italy there're many!

Thanks for your comments, I know what you mean about pricing etc. If you are exclusively looking for a Servis Supertwin from the 60's then I can always keep my eyes & ears open for you, they do come up every now and then. Servis twin tubs were one of the best and built to last, many are still hanging around.

The Candy Bi-matic was available in the UK, and only a few years ago, a lady contacted me from London saying that she had an old twin tub, which she thought was a candy, clear spinner lid, square wash tub etc..I went and viewed and it was and in great condition, I waited and waited for them to come back to me about buying it but never heard anymore.

Here's hoping one comes at some point.
