Can't believe what grams did to the maytag dryer.. How much damage could be done?

Ok.. This was my favorite dryer.. I was going to get her a matchng dryer for the affinty f/l on a pedstal for christmas, but now they may have to any way, as i wanted to keep this one as a back up and to have when i get my laundry studio (at some point)..Anyway Grand ma read that you should clean the lint filter and drum if you use dryer sheets (which this dryer has maybe seen 5 or 10)...So while doing this she some how dropped a sponge down into the lint filter and it got into the fan (she turned it on afterwards).. I just pray that she didn't kill it.. Ohhhhh..... I love them dearly but good gosh... SO i guess i gotta drive 4 hours to take care of this mess in the next few days... What kinda damage did she do? She stopped it immidatly casue it was going thump thump thump... Do you think its worth saving? We all liked this dryer alot and it worked really well and handled huge loads with no issue (inlcuding bob loads).. Ideas?? I know its an amanna tag... Any ideas?? We paid $300 for it last year...

Explorder3211, in my opinion. On your grandmother's dryer, I would open it up to see if there is any damage to it. If it is no damage or if it is a minor damage I would repair it, and still use the dryer.

There is a good chance nothing really bad happend; those fans are built to be run with a fair amount of lint build up on them.

Just unplug it, take it apart and look. You're going to want to look carefully for every piece of sponge - flammable - but it probably did less damage being such a big thing then if a small piece of foam rubber had fallen in and lodged in one section of the fan.

Oh, nearly forgot. While I was unpacking the over the stove microwave for my folks a few months back, my cat "helped" by scratching at the foam bead packaging for the glass..
I missed one single bead, ONE, of packaging. Not even 1/4", polystyrene. It landed in the squirlcage blower, of course.
The noise was so loud, you wouldn't believe it. I thought the whole fan was shot...nope, just this teeny-tiny little piece of soft plastic.

It could easily be similar - the sponge got tossed into a corner and only a little sliver is stuck in the fan.

If anything, it got stuck, and broke the plastic blower. Easy fix.

No damage done

I had a tenant run the dryer (Maytag) with out the lint screen and so a pair of panties and a bra got sucked in. She did not know what was wrong but when you turned it on sounded like the dryer was loaded with couple of pairs of tennis shoes. I'm sure it was the same sound her head made when she moved from side to side. She had rocks for brains. Any way it did not damage the dryer but had to take the front off and pull her delicates out of the fan housing.

Called one of my buddies, took the front off and pulled the sponge out.. Cost? $30.. Dryer is fine.. He made the comment that this dryer should last her the rest of her life... Said he was quite fond of the amanna made maytag dryers.. Good units.. Like the whirlpools... Was laughing though that many will wind up as trash casue there matching washers will croke..

thats what he told me.. and thats what i thought.. maybe i am wrong and so is he.. or else maybe he was thinking (we he did say in the past to me) that amana and norage where all about the same.. WHo knows.. ALl the same its fixed
