I found some cascade institutional formula powder at gordon food service, and it contains either 7 or 9 percent phosphates and chlorine bleach. It seems to do a fabulous job and makes the kitchen smell of bleach! I was wondering if anybody has used it and what you think of it. We just finished off a box of phosphate free cascade complete, which seems to wash good, but the scent is so strong that the inside of the dishwasher and everything else plastic smelled (and tasted!) of cascade. I still have an 85 count tub of ELECTROSOL powerball tabs and a partial bag of phosphated cascade tabs stashed away but am hoping the phosphate free formulas improve soon!

You might try Finish powder or Powerball tablets.

Many here think they beat the pants off of non professional Cascade. Having said that glad you like your Foodservice version.

actually...

Im not at home right now, at my Grandpa's, and I just went to the store to buy some dw detergent because he was out. I picked up a box of Finish powder (phosphate free) and the dishwasher (a 1990's Kenmore ultra wash) is running right now. I might post the results after its done.

Like it!

I used the old-formula Cascade with phosphates after the Palmolive liquid I liked went 'eco'. I then got a better-performing KitchenAid Custom 21 dishwasher which helped alot as well.

The last hold out for old Cascade was a local discount store but now they've all gone new formula.

I tried some just to see how it was. I got terrible results. Even with a powerful dishwasher.

So I found the professional formula and love it. It does have bleach in it which the old standard Cascade powder did not, which adds another plus to it.

I REALLY like using it to soak pans with stuck on food. I boil a kettle of water and fill the pan and add a good cup of Cascade. It releases the stuck on food in record time.

I also used it to clean the Percolator out. Same boiling water method. Wonderful!

The only problem I've had is that it's a bit pricier than the off-the-shelf stuff.

A local 'Big Lots' store had an entire endcap with the last of the 6.9% phosphated Cascade Complete. Stupid me, I didn't buy it. I was able to snag the absolute last box before it was all new-formula stuff.
