the very thought.

Appliance addicts to the front!! They've declared war. I was horrified at the waste of those "clunker" cars being crushed. Jesus, Mary and Joseph - not our vintage appliances too. Someone fix me a cocktail.

I TOLD YOU

there was a cash for old machines...to send to the junk pile to be scrapped for the rebate to get a new one.....

trade in the old for a new one.........this was not going to be just a simple cash ack rebate...they want the old one documented as being crushed and recycled

NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?

they can have mine wen they pull it from my cold dead fingers!

can I have my vintage set turned into a coffin to be buried in?...cause if I can't take them with me I ain't goin'

THat's because the general public thinks "new is better". HA!! If they knew what we knew, it would be a vastly different story.

They can have my (our) 1962-ish Jenn Air cooktop and oven that we bought NOS 2 years ago. The large burner on the cooktop doesn't work, and now the smaller burner we use most often because of placement isn't always working. The door on the larger of the two ovens has already dropped about 1/4". How unusual for something of such quality!

Rich and I will be looking for replacements as soon as the restoration from the July 7th water damage is done (don't ask!!!). Can't even think of another project right now!!!

Not in California. And if you read the article, it's only in New York state that they are offering cash for proof that the old appliance was recycled... and then it's only some "extra" cash, on top of the rebate for just buying a newer, more energy efficient appliance.

So let not the hysteria begin again.

This could actually be a good thing for collectors... people will tend to try to sell their vintage appliances on Craigslist or eBay rather than recycling them. Or maybe give them away on Craigslist... instead of asking the state for more money for proof of crushing. So there could be more vintage appliance up for grabs for collectors.

At least in California.

From the other side of the pond

I usually check out the ebay and craiglist links that members post here, even though I have no chance whatsoever of buying things from there. What ofen amazes me is how much some of these things are being offered for - are there really that many vintage appliance collectors in the US, or have people got the idea that they can pin the word Retro to any old piece of junk and expect to get a premium for it? And do they make the price they are looking for?
