My cat sort of "missed" and he peed just on the outside of his litter box into the carpet.

I know I need a cleaner with "enzymes" but I don't have anything on hand ........Does anyone know if Laundry detergent would work since it has enzymes? Or is that a different type of enzyme that won't help

Thanks

Get thee to Pet Smart pronto and buy a bottle/jug of Simple Solutions or Natures Miracle and pour it on.. The enzyme products really have to soak the situation, right down into the underpad and remain there in order to work properly. Be careful if there is hardwood flooring under the carpet though.

I have used Nature's Miracle before and it works fine. But you have to leave it sit on the stain for 24 hours before wiping it up otherwise it won't work.

My neighbor across the street son bought some new clothes he threw on his bed. Their cat peed all over them. He washed the clothes multiple times and couldn't get the smell out. So I told them about Nature's Miracle. They used it as directed on the bottle, then washed the clothes and they cam out as good as new with no odors!

Anything with ammonia in it will work too....but you have to be judicious in getting it all out as it may attract them back to the spot...so use it until clean and then neutralise it with white vinegar...

...and remember, 'less is more'....it's better to take a longer time to remove it by using less of a product than to use so much you ruin the carpet.

Thanks........

I actually have two litter boxes and use Feline Pine in both of them. I like it a lot better than clay litter. In five years there have only been two accidents, this latest one was a few days ago and it was right on the side of the litter box, he actually "USED" the litter box but it ran down the side onto the carpet and sort of under the litter box........

I got my Hoover SteamVac Jr out and filled it with white vinegar and hot water and rinsed and repeated several times, put a fan on to dry the area for a few hours......

Urine smell still there..........

So the next time I used some resolve spot magic that I had under my kitchen sink for years. I sprayed the entire area, and let it soak for a while, then rinsed with hoover......then let dry again......

I had read online that laundry detergent had enzymes like that which was in those Urine removers you can get a pet stores, but I wasn't sure if the laundry powder I have has the type of enzymes to get rid of cat urine. Gain HE powder was all I had. I mixed it with hot water and a spray bottle and sprayed the area....Let it sit for a while (probably not long enough)...then rinsed it three times really well.....Underneath my carpet is concrete

I haven't used the Natures Miracle yet, but I did get some. I'm waiting to see if the smell is still there when it dries.

Thanks

It may be worthwhile...

...getting a rubberised car mat with a raised edge...the sort that catches mud etc in a 4x4 and place the litter tray in that....just in case there's a next 'aim fail'

They also make very large and deep litter boxes. Petsmart carries them. We had a big male cat who had aiming problems following surgery, and the deeper litter box kept everything inside.

Baking soda

work it in vacuum it out will pull it out and with no odor let dry for a day it does it job well.

I actually think the Gain Powdered detergent worked.......Either that or me going over the area a million times with the steam vac jr that I got all traces of it sucked out.....Not sure.

The rubber mat is a good idea. It's so infrequent that this happens with my cats but even still.......For the love of God, I've never see anything this hard to get rid of in my life.

Yes, the two litter boxes that I have are the litter boxes that work with feline pine cat litter, and unless they've updated them, they don't have lids.
To me it's the best cat litter because it lasts a long time, absorbs odor really well, and you can just scoop out solid waste into toilet and flush and when they pee into the liter, it turns to saw dust and you just shake the box and the saw dust filters out into the bottom pan......When that gets full of saw dust, I flush the saw dust down the toilet.....I used to use clay litter but this is SOOO much easier and there are only a few little pine pieces that stick to their paws when they leave the box.
