I was just wondering for those of you that have central ac how old your units are. Do any of you have any of the old units with the fan on the front? If so could you post a pic? These were always my favorite, anyone know when they made units like this?

Fan on the front

I think I have seen some recent industrial units set up that way. The residential split ductless units like the Mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" also look like that. I can't remember the last time I saw a regular residential set-up with a front fan though.

I've seen one in the neighborhood, I think it's from the late 60's.

Bryant has one model with front fan.. I think Heil was the last one to do it in the mid 80's A neighboor had one when I was growing up, and it dried the grass in front of it if there was no rain for a while!

McGraw Edison, 1968

My dad installed our houses central AC in 1968 or so, the condenser unit was a 3 foot cube with a 3 foot diam fan on one side. Grey case with white screen on the fan and opposite fan side. The literature says McGraw Edison

My mom still uses it.

The old "Luxair" compressor/condensers had an angled front like the slant front westy's. I always thought it was a clever design the heat and sound went up at an angle. As opposed to being obstructed by the eaves on your home. alr2903
