Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I agree about the older stuff. But what they're making now, not only does quality suffer, but the electronics they are using seem to have more failuers than other appliancse on the market today.

Nice to hear someone else break a taboo first:-). Yeah I agree, no electronics in washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc. Poor substitute for mechanical sequencers. Simplicity is good.

The one possible exception I can see is, having everything plugged into ethernet ports connected to an energy systems controller you can program from your desktop computer via an interface similar to a web browser. Minimize peak electric demand, making better use of existing generating resources. For example, when I plan to run the dryer, I'd like to have the fridge go through a cooling cycle and then shut down, and then turn the dryer on. And when the dryer is done, the fridge comes back on.

Right now this can be done with manual controls (e.g. switched outlets), but for people who don't have the patience for pushing buttons, automating it via the household ethernet is a reasonable substitute.

At my dads house he has rigged up a system sort of what you described but without the computer system-wired it years ago.It involves his dryer and water heater-Whenever the dryer is running the water heater is shut off. When you start the dryer you hear a contactor cycle that turns off the water heater-he is on a "demand Billing" with his electric company. Its set so the water heater and dryer won't be running at the same time. They just have to time drying laundry and doing dishes or other clothes and showers while the dryer is going.

Design Geek!

I think mechanical controls are good too! In the seventies Australian Simpson washing machines in the TOL were available as fully programmed, in that a whole row of push puttons had every kind of load listed and you pushed that putton and all parameters were set, you selected water level and switched on. The really TOL has "solid state" controls and you could adjuest the preset parameters too! Kind of a predessesor to todays all electronic models but i think it could still work and provide all the features you would want!

Water saving solid tub too!

I have a photocopy of a newspaper advertisement of this machine, poor quality but I should scan it nonetheless!
