And I have always thought that the Collaro changers were the only ones that "sampled" the record via the tonearm.

This German changer does more than "sample" the edge of the record though.... It give the record a "rubdown" instead of the gentle tap the Collaro does! lol!! I think it looks funny as hell!!

Collaro changer operation

Here is a Collaro record changer in a Magnavox portable for the comparison in operation to the German made changer.

(btw: you do have to take your clothes off to have fun...) <:

Wow, how cool is that! That's a Miracord, I think? I have never seen that kind of indexing before. Thanks for sharing it.

That's really cool, but I don't know that I'd want something grazing back and forth across the underside of my records. Having said that, it IS an interesting changing process. Never seen anything quite like it. Nice find, Rick!

Thanks classiccaprice, but I do not own this German made record changer. I simply ran across it on youtube. In fact, I do not even know what company manufactured this German built changer. Does anyone here know for sure?? Is it a Miracord as Washabear thinks it may be?

Another one......

This one is an early Duel, another German built changer. Watch how this scans a 78rpm recording.

And now watch the same 1957 Duel....

Scan and play a couple of 45rpm recordings.

Can you tell that I have been home from work sick all day???

Yes, I have been bored and on the net all afternoon. <:

The "Duel" is Dual, pronounced Du-AL. That appears to be a Dual 1006 in the video. A great German company until it dissolved in 2000. The company was purchased and is still making turntables in Germany to this day.

On Dual turntables, the record platter doesn't just drop, it's lowered via an elevator like system on the spindle. A Dual exclusive!

I don't know if I would want to play my favorite records on that TT!The action of that tonearm could cause scratching!hope there is some sort of pad on the top of the arms headshell to prevent that.there must be.Loved that Dual 1004 playing the 78 of Lil Marlene(beleive it was) and the two 45s.Looks like the changer is installed in some sort of Hi-fi console.like to see an overall shot of it.must be a nice unit!I am still trying to get my yard sale Dual 1009 to work. the mechanism is badly jammmed-never run into one in this shape. Its like someone forced it or something.Usually those work after a good cleaning with alcohol and regreasing.not this bad boy.Maybe thats why it was in the yard sale.

Dual 1006

I have a Dual 1006 waiting to be restored. It scans the record until it finds the edge, then the tonearm lifts up, the wheels retract and the needle sets down.

Here's a working one...

But Seriously......

It appears that the German record changer is malfunctioning. This is not suppose to happen when the gears are in motion to actuate the tone arm. Same with the Magnavox. I would have a look see because more damage could be done.

1954 Garrard RC98/4L

Hi Steve!!

Both the Dual and the Miracord record changers are working as they should. They both scan the record size with the tonearm.

I just bought this 1954 Garrard from ebay today. It scans with the little arm above the tone arm. I am purchasing this old Garrard to replace a POS Dual from the late 1980's that has had very little use. It is junk, and now the turntable spins backward about have the time it is started. Also the tonearm won't move in AUTO mode.
I have a Sansui system in the basement, the vintage Garrard will be connected to that.
The 1980's Dual will be scrapped.
