No joke. A 1950s box of Cheer just sold for that on ebay.

I've seen some wild prices on vintage detergent offerings, but this must be a record.

If who ever bought it actually uses it, and uses it as directed (1 1/4 cups)
Its sure going to be and expensive!
Hard to imagine 1 and 1/4 cups of anything going in a washer now!

Would this old box of detergent even work as it did when new? I have an old box of Rinso from 1930s still sealed. I often wondered if it still good to use? Any thought?

Hi Gary

The detergent would probably work fine.
The Rinso Soap you'd have to check by trying to dissolve a little in a glass of warm water, then let sit a day. If it stays soluble, then the Rinso would be O.K to use.
Both the detergent and the Rinso Soap have probably lost their scents by now,
Hey found two of the ugly little bars of Naptha soap! You want um? Did you try the Granny Slagle's 1860 lye soap? Let me know what you think if you did!
