CircleW...Pittypat's Porch has a catchy name, however,  for over 40 years has been a tourist trap.  The food is not good and even after several owners, they just do not have what (in my opinion) it takes to qualify for really authentic, good, southern fare. I think the name is clever and many people confuse Pittypat's with Mary Mac's.   Vastly different.

Cuffs054, Yes, Buckner's in Jackson, GA (literally off of I-75) has great fried chicken.  They brine the chicken as I mentioned in a previous post.   Those custom built lazy Susan family style tables are kind of cool too.   Buckner's side dishes are decent as well.

I love

Mary Macs, Ron Jones gave me their cook book and I use many of the recipes,I never got to experience Aunt Fannys Cabin but I heard it was something special.

Yes Hans, over the years Mary Macs has published several cookbooks. When John purchased the restaurant from Margaret Lupo in the 1990s he did a great cookbook with a historical pictoral. Margaret's daughter and son in law ( Steve Nygren, created the Peasant restaurants and Micks, Daily's in the 70s and 80s) both own Serenbe in middle Ga. They have a restaurant with authentic southern cuisine, The Farmhouse. I ate at The Busy Bee last night ( I had such a hankering for good southern food after all of these posts referencing good food). It was good but quite expensive for what I had to eat.

A healthier

alternative to chicken fried steak is Munchner schnitzel. You can use a pork cutlet, or a chicken breast or tender. Pound it out thin and coat with mustard, and or the same ingredients. I don't deep fry it, I pan sear in olive oil and a bit of butter.
