Mabe at least we can make the admn. a little shameful ??? Mabe just a little???? naaaa not scrooge

Lee,
This is crazy!
They announced this in a staff meeting?
They are just asking to be turned over to the news media.
I just can't get past the $2.00 per every year?
What a slap in the face!
What would all of your Doctor's do, not to mention the Deville driving Admin. do if you all walked out, or went on strike?
They are playing against your will, and wonderful nature. They know you guys are the only human's that care, and therefore you would never do this sort of thing to put your Patients at risk.
This is the whole reason I left nursing!
I feel for you.
At the same time however, I THANK YOU FOR BEING THE PERSON YOU ARE!
We will all need Nurses, and Aids, etc. at some point in our lives.
The scary part to me is that with this type of treatment, there won't be anyone to take care of us when the time comes.
This world is so sad. It really is messed up. Sometimes I worry beyond repair.
I hope you have a good Christmas, and forget about those Jerks.

I talked to one of the reporters working on the stroy last night. They have found out some more things but are not telling just yet looks like they are going to have to file a suit under open records act to find out what they need the Admn. is not cooperating at all .. THis is going to be very interesting.

Hospital Administration is good at one thing - Spinning the

Sudsman, I work for a hospital as a medical transcriptionist. Now I do my work from home (saves a commute) but used to be on site. I was never impressed with the hospital I work for, although I had never been in patient care areas much I notice that the public areas like lobbies and offices have stained ceiling panels and dirty carpets and all of the men's rooms smell pissy. This as all the time but worse since they cut back housekeeping. But as far as I knew the patient areas had to be clean as we are supposed to be one of the Top 100 hospitals in the nation.

Recently a report by a hospital advocacy group stated that our hospital had one of the worst infection rates in the state! This was in the paper and mentioned by name. The first thing that we received was an email, saying that "Our reporting is more honest" and "We tell our doctors to wash their hands" and what this group says is wrong and we are right and the best.

If I were running the hospital I might get extra hours for housekeeping and tell them to clean the place up so as to give the impression maybe this is not the truth. But last week I went over there for training and the areas I speak of were just as dirty and smelly as before. The trainers were also very defensive about the statisics and that we had "A damn good ER" (I would not know, it could be, but I have never needed it).

As for the administrator who told you to just rinse blankets and return them to use, you should have thrown a blanket at him and told him to sleep in it. That conceivably could cause an infection!. In one other thread about EColab you show some white washcloths in a bin, they are a lot whiter than the ones I have seen in other hospitals. Could you come and do our laundry?

Outsourced

Many hospitals have food service, housekeeping, laundry and outdoor maintenance ie: landscaping, grass cutting and parking lot sweeping, farmed out to commercial vendors that have BID to provide these services. Most except for extreme upper management are not hospital employees.

That is true in other parts of the country but for some reason not here. In the case of our hospital, security is outsourced but nothing else. They really need another security company, most of the guards we have, if they are not drunk they need to take a shower!

Ever since I have been here they have threaten to outsource medical transcription (one of the easier services to outsource) but claim that it costs more than having their own employees. They probably made the same decision with the cafeteria and the laundry too. It is a non-profit hospital, but as far as housekeeping, seems just as cheap as a for-profit one.

Recently our hospital accepted the Teamsters union as a bargaining unit for employees like us. I voted it in and hoped that maybe we might be treated better but that has not happened. In fact, when I spoke to our respresentative he was a total A----le. That is when I went to casual pool status and that way I don't have to pay about 450 dollars in union dues. It helps that I work from home becuase when I go to that hospital for training or meetings, seems like it is always a bad day.

We used to get a 10 dollar supermarket gift certificate but becuase the institution "runs on the thinnest of margins" we may not even get that this year.
