Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Chris

Cannot wait! A fellow member here (SuperElectronic) has one of these and enjoys it!

I'd say between 1994 and 1997 so expect plenty of reliability.

Please can I request a 95 boilwash please, but I can see it in March if you cant upload.

Thank You

Jacob

The original hotpoint...

These hotpoints were alot better then the newer ones, but unfortunatly hotpoint dont exist as we knew them, meaning that alot of the designs are by indesit, which i have to say are not the best. I would say that the final decent built hotpoint was the wm64... They Were Brilliant!

As much as Hotpoint were decent washers, they were always a bit hit and miss with reliability. Quality control at the Hotpoint plant was shocking! If you got a good one, it would last years. But if you got a duff one, you were screwed!

Also, with regards to the above comment regarding "alot of the designs are by indesit", ALL of the current Hotpoints are designed by Indesit. Infact, Hotpoint and Indesit are made using exactly the same parts and most have the same programming. The only difference is the outside of the machine and the brand name.

The Origonal Hotpoint...

Oh, and i Forgot To mention that Indesit also own Ariston, Creda, as well as hotpoint i mentioned above. I have recently been looking on creda for spin dryers, and found out that the tumble dryers on their website looked exactly the same as a indesit dryer. If i found Our old WM64, i would happily get rid of the current hotpoint/indesit and put the WM64 in its place!

How very familiar!

That's the same as my daily driver...serving my family and me since March 1996!

It's one of the later versions with more advanced spin control: gradual build-up to distribution into a short burst of 500, then a longer one, and in the final spins will add a third stage wherby it increases speed in three steps from 500 > 700 > 800rpm. Earlier versions of the model had the old distri-drain and spin profile. You can tell by a small difference in the rinse symbol/indication on the dial - the long line above the shower symbol came in with the later models; earlier machines just have a dot over the shower and a flower symbol at the final rinse position.

I had the bearings replaced in May and since then it's been on good form, bar an occasional leak from the door. Unfortunately, it's a bit rattly with any unbalanced load and the pump is rather noisy - but that's always been the case. My kickstrip is also peeling at the corners.

It's a very sound machine - you should enjoy it! Very good for a sudsy wash and water gushing down the door during spins (on fuller loads).

Update.
We moved it from the car, onto the garage floor and spun the drum by hand. The problem is THE DRUM HAS COME OFF ITS SHAFT!!!!!

Any what I am going to fix it and not let it go till April.(or I may just keep it!)

Hi James.

The machine sits in the garage and I removed the back panel and evreything was intaced. Hopefully it will only be a new spider kit, not a drum!

Christopher...

Looked at your videos and yes you need a drum spider and bearing kit. You need to take the front panel off, unclip the front of the outer tub and get someone strong to unscrew the nut from the pulley while it is jammed. Pull inner drum out and knock bearings out, unbolt the drum from the spider and reverse steps to repair.

James.

Hotpoint WM12!!!!!

OMG OMG OMG I cant Speak!!! You must get this machine up and running again! These machines were made in the early 1990s, and the model before this had the distribution-drains etc... Chain it up, lock it away, and for goodness sake dont let it get anywhere near the back of a SKIP LORRY!!!!

Hotpoint WM12

Dont worry about the spider, you can get them cheap online, ebay may have them for a low cost. It is usually highly recommended that you replace the bearings at the same time too.
