Well done! A sterling effort by you (and your Dad).

I've just watched the video and it's not behaving quite as mine does:

1) it's definitely NOT pumping out...at least not properly. The original pumps on these machines are pretty noisy and you'd hear it as well as see full drainage. It's possible you need to look at the sump catch pot and that area in general to check for a blockage, otherwise it may need a new pump or - more tricky - something is up with the wiring/timer.

2) The drum seems a bit stiff: it decelerates very quickly

3) I'm not sure it hit 800...although this may have been due to water remaining in the drum. Out of balance situations can also mean it goes from 500 to 700 but you don't get that last final ramp up to full speed. This could well sort itself out though!

I do have a video of mine but due to being filmed on a phone the sound quality is poor.

 

Incidentally, these machines have a zero delay door lock - once it clicks off the spin position (near O - they never did get the dials to line up properly) you can open the door. Also, if ever you switch it off during a spin sequence, note it will restart from the beginning.

Thanks. We had a Hotpoint WM64 for 7 years in beige. It was an excellent machine until the timer shot on it.

We had a wm21 and that went for ages till 2002. A WMA63 took its place.

A shop near me throws alot of these machines out, Even machines that only need a new door latch! Goes to show how much money people are wasting rather than be like us - To restore them to their glory, and use them again. Even the drum bearings, especially on the hotpoints - they are so easy to replace. Take the top, back, and front panels off the machine, detach the pulley wheel from the back, and slide the drum out... Manufactures reused to make washing machines with 50/50 tub, so you cant change the bearings - All to make you buy a new machine.

In my zanussi - I had to get the whole tub out of the machine to get to the bearings...

Hi Henry.

We have loads of shops that throw out appliances and one of so where the wm12 came from. Also, i thought i might tell you 2 things, More pics to be posted tommorrow and i may get a wm64 at the end of feb.

Excellent... As soon as i get my workshop sorted out, i will upload more videos onto youtube. I hope to get a machine that has a shot timer on it (Hotpoint WM63) and fit my own circuits onto it. I created a thread called "Henry's Project" and cant do much more now until I find the command for drain (Pump Out)... About the WM64, If you get it, I can gurantee that you will really enjoy using it. They were great machines and lasted well. They were known at one time to be the last decent built hotpoints until everything went downhill with the WMA Series Etc...
