Omaha, The Home of the TV Dinner!
Stopped over at Jamie's today to install a new burner in his 56 GE range and brought the camera to take a few snaps of his beautiful appliances and television collection. It was a beautiful, sunny day in Omaha and his kitchen is bright and cheerful with the large windows - great for pictures!

Here is the range in question - I'll let him fill in the details of it's history, but it's in great shape and only needs a switch unit for the large burner to be in perfect working order again.

Hey Jamie -

I like what you've done with your kitchen. The GE stove looks to be in great shape, and the '56 GM Fridge looks right at home. What is it like to have a Maid around for 24 hours? ;-)

Nice collection of TV's too - so much fun!

Ben

OMG, my mother had the little one, to the left of the one with the green speaker!

She is gonna plotz...

What brand is it?

Grams and Granps had a tv almost like the one with the mickey mouse tv on it... They won it in a Church Raffle

The Mobile Maid looks wonderful. I'd want to dirty dishes just so I could use it..here dirty another dish will ya!!

Everything fits together nicely and yes I see that GE Toaster Oven, one of those is on my list but I think it'll be an ebay purchase as none ever show up.

What year is the GE stove? Is it the apt size model or standard size I can't quite tell from the pic.

Hi Jamie, I love the colors in your kitchen. That GE dishwasher looks right at home there. You have the perfect spot for it.

Thank you Greg for taking & posting these pictures for me! (I really need to get a digital camera and actually learn how to use it and post pictures) I bought this house (my first) last year. It's a small bungalow built in 1922 It was cared for well and had the same owner for 57 years. I bought it from her grandson. When I bought a house I always wanted to put that stove in it. My grandparents lived on a farm and I have many happy memories of them and the farm. Sadly, they were killed in an accident in 1977. My grandma was a baker and cook and I remember all the good stuff she baked with it. My mom got and used this stove for a few years and it has been in storage for over 20 years. I finally got it out of storage, and thanks to Greg for checking it out and making sure it was safe to plug in, I now have it in MY kitchen! The stove is small. In 1956 my grandparents bought all new GE appliances (including the radio you see on the fridge) Grandma got such a small oven because she still had and used the old cob stove in the kitchen as well. The other appliances are from Greg, and I cannot thank him enough for helping me complete the 50's look I always wanted for a kitchen. Isn't that Frigidaire beautiful? My next project is to clean the basement up and arrange stuff better. It's packed now. Oxydolfan1, the small Tv is an Admiral. It's made out of bakelite! I'm going to try to fix it and get it going as it is Gregs. I think he's going to put it in his livingroom. Ben... I'll probably see you at the end of December. You should bring the Tahoe up as there is a 67 Magnavox console that wants to come home with you!!!

Thanks tlee618! I can't take credit for the colors. I lucked out and loved the taste of the former owners, so I have not repainted a thing. (which is good as I tend to be lazy that way) I'm happy the kitchen isn't too small, as the house itself is tiny. I don't know if you can tell, but if you look at the pix of the stove, and look outside the window you will see I have 1/3 of an acre to mow in the summer. Thank god winter is here as I am sick of yard work and would like to take time this winter to clean up the basement!

Ben, I have a few sets that need a new home... LOL! And I use a push-mower, but I am getting OLD and need a rider!!!

Jamie, your collection is great! That is a wonderful refrigerator. I have always been partial to Frigidaire's 1956 line-up because of the fabulous copper trim.

Is that an old GE toaster?

jasonl-- I'll have to try and get more pix once I have the basement organized. I looked at the posted pix and saw I have a row of Zeniths. The first set is a 1965 Zenith "roundie" then the 1975 Chromacolor 2, and next to it is a 19" 1972 Chromacolor. It has the 4 tube hybrid chassis. I also have a row of sets that can't be seen in the picture. A 1965 Sylvania round screen, A 1967 Magnavox remote console and a 1957 RCA B&W set. Also I have a 1979 19" System 3 with zoom that I watch while on the treadmill. Upstairs I have a 1979 Magnavox console in the office and in my bedroom a 1981 deluxe Zenith System 3 with space phone.

and yes gyrafoam... my other grandma had a toster like that and it is indeed a GE toaster oven. I think it's from the late 40's.

thanks Rich. I love it as well. Veg.. Good eye! I got that Westinghouse combo off of eBay awhile back. There was a post about it on AK. Not too bad of a unit, altho the turntable doesn't work. Would be neet if I could figure it out and get it going. Westinghouse always made the strangest, yet coolest stuff!

Thanks for the pix

Thanks to Jamie and Greg for sharing the pictures of your collections. It's fun to have free standing appliances like the stove, refer and dishwasher. That way you can rotate what you use. With built-ins it's much harder to change out.

I also love that table with matching vinyl and chrome chairs. Stylish and easy up-keep!

All in all a real comfortable place.

I also love the TV's My oldest is a GE 9" 1978 portable (not porta-color, just after that). I always wanted a round 21" color, actually had one in 1970, but sold it. Those had the best color of any set.

Round tubes had best color.

Many round tube sets had tremendous color rendition due to their sulfide phosphors.
Later, the world went to rare-earth for higher brightness, but sulfide had a bloody-red that was great for fleshtones.
... I learned this from a tube rebuilder some years ago.

round tubes don't always-A pix tube I had the rebuilder replaced the gun BUT NOT the PHOSPHORS-you have to replace those as well-or the picture on the tube screen will have a washed out "pastel" look.Today-I will take a modern set for color reproduction. If the contrast and brightness are adjusted properly the colors are more natural.Too many sets have a bilious" oversaturated colors. Most of the problem is the user has the brightness, chroma, contrast set all the way up.Not good for a nice picture or the sets tube-wether it be CRT or Plasma. At this point nothing beats a CRT type set for overall performance if it is adjusted properly.Oversaturated colors are incorrect.CRT's still give the best "blacks" than any other picture display.I really love my Hitachi RPTV.Its really like you are there when you play the HDDVD or BluRay DVD's thru it.
