I don't deep-fry often, but Crisco is the way to go. It doesn't leave your house smelling like a deep-fryer, as do less refined vegetable oils. And now it has far less trans fat than it used to.
Crisco & popcorn is great!

Fried up some chicken a few weeks ago using Criso and that same (vingate) cast iron "chicken frying pan" by Wagner. Yes, one used Crisco, but still had a house that had a whiff for several days.
Personally like peanut oil as it has a higher smoking point than Crisco. This usually means less "fried chicken" odor lingering around.
Crisco aside just loved Ceila's house especially that kichen! So open and airy which is great for summer cooking in hot weather, especially before AC came to the South! Just open the doors and windows for cross ventilation!
Hilly was so mean to Ceila. Mainly because she took a man off her, but also because the latter was considered "white trash", but the rest of the girls.

Back in the day when one was involved with nursing Crisco was recommended for use on persons suffering from diabetes as part of foot care. This was before the all the special creams came along which do the same thing but are mineral oil, silicone, and fat based as opposed to just shortening.

I can attest to the versatility of Crisco.

Crisco was originally a Procter and Gamble product, which is amusing, because another Procter and Gamble product, Dawn dish liquid is the perfect external remover of Crisco. External. Now, Crisco is a Smucker's product (that's not why I stopped using it, however.)

Had the same exact Home Comfort range, I remember she also had a Kenmore Electric, but would only bake cakes in the wood stove, and let me tell you, there has never been a pound cake with as good a crust as that!!

While Crisco can be used for more, uhm, "naughty" uses, lol, Minnie was right. My first grade teacher Miss Viola is in her late 80's now, and according to a friend who married her grandson, every night after her bath, Miss Viola uses Crisco on every inch of her skin. She certainly doesn't look her age, and swears it is the best skin cream there is.
Yes, Crisco was the boy butter for the special occasion but cooking and baking with this oil makes everything so tasty!
