Classic Hotpoint

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Chris

I have still pics but don't know what format to upload them in - any hints? Whatever I'm trying says file too big. I have a feeling I posted pics a while back, is there a way of searching the archives on this site? Forgive my ignorance please.

Just to update you....I have located the spares I need and will order them very shortly. Tonight I adjusted the tumble and distribute speed - fun job - and it's now a bit more lively, plus making that great sort of `me-aw,me-aw' classic distribute noise. Everything is held to the side of the tub, not the case before.

Two questions if anyone can help me......

(1)When I refit a nose hose from dispenser to tub, what do I use as sealant? May have asked that before but have forgotten answer.
(2)What specifically should I use to rub down and respray the outer cabinet?

Regards

Nick

Hotpoint pics

I have the Hotpoint pics Nick in my webshots album - uploaded them for you there :-). Have linked them below... feel free to forward anymore if you have them and I'll put them in that folder!

Great that you've sorted the distribution speed out - as I said before I'm loving watching this machine get restored as time goes on.

Hey nick.
bit of a late replier here i've been away in spain, however better late than never! i've been dying to see that video from first finding out you had such a machine!

it took me back to my childhood. the machine that was in existance when i came into the world was one of these models. i forget the number 18--- i forget lol 4 option buttons and a timer! it was fantastic and later replaced by our hotpoint 9534 which i adored. that died of bad bearings.

the spins used to terrify me when it was out of balance. it would jump forward..i remember the day i discovered that when you turn the dial to the notch after spin and pull the dial it immediately goes into 1000rpm i shot to the back of the room before you could say Boo! lol..

many thanks for the video and best of luck with restoring her to her former beauty

Pulsator, thanks for your kind comments. The spin is quite something in real life too! Work on this machine is now well underway and I hope to have it up and running properly within the fortnight.

Newwave, hi! So far I haven't managed to send this one off balance. I'm scared to set her up deliberatlely with, say a bath mat or something, as the old rust bucket will probably just fall to pieces lol. I have a feeling that because this machine is a `three leg suspension' model it's more sturdy than most other Hotpoints which had two - this could be partly what caused the jumping you spoke of. BTW, Andy Trigg on the `washerhelp' sight said he'd seen instances of Hotpoints whose motors had punched a hole in the top right of the cabinet on severely OB loads!! Hope you're keeping well Newwave. BTW There is a great condition Newwave on ebay for £1 in Kent - a 1400!

I was working on the machine today fitting a new dispenser pipe to the outer drum. I was sanding the area to connect the new pipe to and then something I didn't even predict happened - I dropped the sand paper into the gap between the inner and outer drum! I had the sump off, the heater off, the Hoover out......but I had to give up getting this sand paper out. I'll have to run some boil washes, soaks, get it to disintegrate then clear it all out the sump I guess. What a pain in the ****.

Regards to all

Nick

Thanks for the video !!!!!!

Hiya

I spotted your video on Youtube ages ago but I didn’t see you had posted it on here lol!

Reminds me of my nan’s Hotpoint washer drier, but the interm-spins only went to 300 rpm for bout 5 seconds and then the rinse started.

The distribute always sounds really sinister on old Hotpoints, especially when you can see it is unbalanced... lol, coz you know what’s coming.

I remember when it was unbalanced once and it moved right across the kitchen lol, it scared the crap outta me (i was only little, lol)
