OK,what to do? Are there ANY powders that don't use zeolites, aluminosilicates, or sodium carbonate which all leave or cause "crusty" deposits in the washer in hard water?

The other side of your conundrum is that adding STPP to any detergent with those additives or builders will negate their adverse effects. Adding enough STPP to make the water feel slippery will also result in your being able to use less detergent and, since STPP rinses out so well, your fabrics and your machine will have less residue remaining on them. It might even do wonders for cleaning your sewer pipes.

Sodium carbonate is not a clay. Zeolites are aluminum silicates and they can be a major clay constituent.

Sodium carbonate forms calcium carbonate in contact with hard water or mineral laden soil in water. It is similar to limestone but is not a clay. It is not good for your clothes or your washing machine.

STPP indeed does help to prevent the formation of calcium and other mineral carbonates, holding the minerals in suspension/solution so they can be rinsed away instead of being deposited onto fabrics and/or washer parts.
